The South Suburban Chicago Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated (JJSSCC) families and friends honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy through purposeful community engagement and economic empowerment. Our MLK Day of Service 2026 theme was “Serve The Dream: Empowering Black Businesses Through Service,” and we brought that vision to life by combining hands-on service with intentional support for Black-owned businesses—demonstrating that community impact and economic empowerment go hand in hand.

A standout moment was the celebration of JJSSCC youth entrepreneurs. They confidently showcased their businesses and participated in a dynamic panel conversation, sharing what inspired them to launch, what they’ve learned along the way, and how they are building with purpose.

Each grade group also engaged in hands-on service activities across the community, giving our children a meaningful opportunity to serve with intention and witness firsthand how collective action can uplift neighborhoods especially when paired with tangible support for Black-owned businesses. Together, we honored the dream by putting it into motion: investing our time, our resources, and our commitment into the people and places that make our community thrive.
