Last week, we hosted our annual Legacy Society Luncheon at Factory One, bringing together community members whose planned gifts are building a stronger future for Genesee County.

We had a great time at the Genesee Power Station yesterday celebrating the 2026 recipients of the Genesee Power Station Citizens Advisory Committee Scholarship fund!

This year’s recipients are:

Lydia Furman (Genesee School District)
Floyd Palmateer (Kearsley Community Schools)
Keana Fant-Thompson (Kearsley Community Schools)
MiiZon Cochran (The Official Site of Beecher High School)
Mya Jackson (Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools)

This scholarship is awarded to graduating students who plan to major in engineering, mathematics or the physical sciences. Congratulations to these students and thank you to the Genesee Power Station for the tour!

The Flint Promise Class of 2026 has graduated! This year's class brings the program's total to 30 graduates since 2025 — earning degrees from from Kettering University, Mott Community College, and University of Michigan-Flint. Flint Promise supports tuition-free access for post-secondary education to high school graduates who live and attend school in the city of Flint. Students also have access to success coaches and other resources.

Young people investing in young people: Ten Genesee County students surveyed their peers, identified community safety as a top concern, and started fundraising. Through the Center for Arab American Philanthropy | CAAP's Teen Grantmaking Initiative, a youth philanthropy program run locally by the Arab American Heritage Council, they raised $500 and awarded it to the Flint Public Health Youth Academy-FPHYA.

The students found FPHYA through the Community Safety Collaborative, drawn to its focus on youth engagement, prevention, and public health approaches to safety.
