Mana Nutrition

Mana Nutrition Mana Nutrition is addressing the root causes and effects of malnutrition. http://www.mananutrition.org

We're starting by making Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food or RUTF (a sort of "Peanut Butter on Steroids") to treat children with severe malnutrition.

Nearly 20 years ago, this 60 Minutes report from Anderson Cooper helped bring one of the world’s most urgent challenges into living rooms across America: severe acute malnutrition.

It also inspired our team to start a non-profit, build a small factory, and start making this lifesaving medicine in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Since then, we’ve made over a billion packets and served millions of children. It all started with a story and a conviction.

We are thankful for the power of storytelling and the growing Mana village, from rural Georgia to the world! 🧡🌍🥜

A mother’s love may be the most powerful force in the world. Steady and sacrificial, yet endlessly generative.

Mana is an acronym for Mother Administered Nutritive Aid. We know the best way to treat a child on the brink of death is to give the person who cares most the lifesaving tools to do so.

Today we honor the women who nourish life in seen and unseen ways. Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Mana. 💛

"What's more American than feeding the world with Georgia peanuts?" -Jason Dunn 🥜🇺🇸

Rural America is often stigmatized, but spend time in Fitzgerald, Georgia, and you’ll see something else entirely.

You’ll see a community that shows up for each other.
You'll find ingenuity, resilience, and compassion.

And the peanuts grown here become life-saving food for children around the world. 🌍

We're proud to call Fitzgerald home because of people like Jason. That's why we awarded him the George Washington Carver Nourishment Award at last year's ManaFest.

Big win for kids. Big win for Georgia 🥜🌍

This week, Congress approved funding that includes $300m for American-made Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food. This is an example of compassion, values, and American capacity working together. Some of this will support the peanut farmers, factory employees, and other suppliers in Georgia and across the US, all in service to children in need. Thank you to everyone who has worked hard to make this happen. 🇺🇸🥜🧡

On this year’s annual trip to Uganda, we had the privilege of connecting with many of the aid and healthcare workers in the malnutrition ward of Moroto Regional Referral Hospital like Teddy, pictured above.

Connecting with these workers is always reinvigorating and inspiring.
For one moment, a global supply chain that is usually spread across multiple continents and thousands of miles exists together in one room: producer, distributor, and recipient.

And while the problem of severe acute malnutrition can be absolutely daunting, it is people like Teddy who are able to model something vital to our cause: hope that takes action.

Teddy and the many other healthcare workers we met in Uganda embody a practical way of moving forward in solving severe acute malnutrition (SAM) that is both grounded in the reality of how things are, while also maintaining belief and conviction that malnutrition is a soluble problem.

In speaking with these workers, aid becomes much more nuanced, messy, and human. These are the people who clearly see aid’s blind spots and its limits, and yet they are also the ones who can most clearly attest to the ways it is helping.

This year, we’re thankful for Betty Farrie. ❤️ At 73 years young, Betty is one of our most beloved team members.

Each day, she arrives at the Mana factory in Fitzgerald, Georgia, ready to give her best, knowing that the work of her hands will help feed a child halfway across the word.

So at this year’s ManaFest, we honored Betty with the Nourishing the Spirit award as part of the George Washington Carver Nourishment Awards. 🏆

May we all strive to be more like Betty, caring for our family, community, and the world.
