We were honored to join Corinda Rainey Moore and community leaders at The Foundation for Black Women's Wellness for the Saving Our Babies press announcement. πŸ’œ This powerful initiative is helping address Wisconsin’s Black infant mortality crisis through community-driven solutions, advocacy, and support for Black mothers and families.

June is Pride Month as well as Rainbow Book Month! 🌈 While we encourage you to read books with authentic and joyful LGBTQ+ representation all year, we especially encourage you to thoughtfully incorporate these books into your reading right now. πŸ“š

This collection of books includes board books and picture books with LGBTQ+ representation. πŸ“– It’s more important than ever for kids of all ages to see their identities positively represented in stories, as well as learn about other lived experiences. Today, books like these are most often under attack when it comes to censorship and book banning. These books matter and deserve places on our bookshelves all year long. πŸ’›

Educators, this blog post also includes links to teaching guides provided by our partnership with Pride and Less Prejudice. They have created these guides to accompany so many of our favorite books for Pride!

πŸ“š The 9th Annual Black Girl Magic Conference from Black Girl Magic Educational Services Inc. did not disappoint! πŸ’œ

Together with Madison Public Library we provided more than 600 participants with two brand new books each. It was incredible to see hundreds of young readers selecting books that reflected their interests, identities, and dreams.

Events like this highlight the power of representation in literacy - and the magic that happens when children get to see themselves in stories and build a collection they can treasure forever. βœ¨πŸ“–

_____

The acclaimed graphic novel adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s groundbreaking dystopian novel, Parable of the Sower, is a don't-miss classic that resonates today more than ever. As The Washington Post noted: "A 1993 dystopian novel imagined the world in 2024. It’s eerily accurate."

This Hugo Award Winner for Best Graphic Story or Comic is the follow-up to Kindred, a #1 New York Times bestseller.

πŸ“šβœ¨ Purchase or donate these titles (and more we love!) on our Books We Love Bookshop list! Every purchase helps us get books into kids’ hands. You can find it at www.bookshop.org/wishlists/3f8398896029ed16175d5b5f94a8a9605881c032
