We are a Wisconsin-based 501c3 charitable organization promoting the animal-human bond and literacy through education, evaluation, and participation of therapy animal teams. Dogs On Call is a local chapter of Pet Partners International, one of the premiere therapy animal organizations in the United States. Our 95 all-volunteer members provide free pet visits to brighten

the lives of thousands of patients, eldercare residents, students, and young library patrons in 100+ locations each year. Our Dogs On Call mission is to train, evaluate and mentor new therapy animal teams, so we can fill therapy animal team requests in south central Wisconsin.

10 teams and hundreds of students -- it must be finals week and the time of our end-of-year College Library visit. More than a thousand trading cards must have changed hands when we visited last month. Thanks to all the teams that came out to support students: Tami & Darby (1), Lisa & Olive (2), Erin & Bailey (3), Jane and Bill & Bailey (4), Janine & Reeses (5), Wendy & Willow (6), Todd & Millie (7), Anja & W***y (8 ), Kay & Jessie (9), and Amy & Bozeman (10). Thanks also to the College Library team for hosting us, to University Health Services for sponsoring parking fees for our handlers, and to our fearless leader, Todd T., for another year of coordinating over 70 visits on UW-Madison, Madison College, and Edgewood University campuses. And we'll do it all again next year!

Teams Willow, Lasko, and Rico got busy at a recent University Health Services visit hosted by Badger Recovery (which offers support and connection for students in recovery from substance use, disordered eating, or addictive behaviors) and the Wisconsin Union Wellness Committee (which offers programs that foster a vibrant, substance-free campus culture and promotes mental health and wellness), where three times more students showed up than we expected. There is obviously great need for the services we offer.

Team Kay & Jessie visited staff, postdocs, and graduate students at the Morgridge Institute for Biomedical Research in the Discovery Building at UW-Madison. Kay shares that Jessie got the princess treatment since the were the only team visiting. If you haven't been to the Discovery Building, you should go! It is quite beautiful, with a large, light-filled atrium with trees and water features.

It was a busy on the last day of classes a couple of weeks ago at the College of Engineering Student Wellness Center. Teams Todd & Millie, Lisa & Olive, Andrea & Maggie Mae, and Anja & W***y connected with over 100 students. We learned about end-of-semester projects (for example, biomedical engineering students are working on creating tools that will benefit their clients, people with disabilities), exams, and posters and about how much students were looking forward to seeing their pets again.

On Memorial Day we reflect on the sacrifices of those who died in service to the nation. This includes military working dogs, who are trained to detect explosives, search buildings, and find injured troops. Thanks to "Robby's Law" (signed in 2000), military working dogs who survive their service are not treated as "surplus equipment" anymore. Instead of being automatically euthanized, they can be adopted (their handlers have first dibs). You can read about some of these dogs at the link in the comments.

DOC members Tami and Anja ran into each other at BratFest, where they were both raising money for DOC as volunteers in charge of grilling and wrapping brats and keeping condiments stocked. Our thanks go to everyone who selected DOC as the charity that will benefit from their volunteer work. 60 hours of volunteer work will be converted to a sizeable donation to our organization. It's going to be a beautiful holiday weekend, come out to Willow Island and get a brat and some ice cream!

Our traditional visit to Steenbock Library (focusing on Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Physics, and Veterinary Medicine) always attracts a lot of students. Thanks to campus teams Amanda & Lottie, Lisa & Olive, Kay & Jessie, Todd & Millie, and Tami & Darby for spending their evening with the students.

Teams Kay & Jessie, Andrea & Maggie Mae, Amy & Bozeman, and Tami & Darby visited the Law School in April. Founded in 1868 and in line with the Wisconsin idea, the UW Law School is guided by a "law in action" legal philosophy, which emphasizes the role of the law in society. At UW-Madison, classes always end one week early at the Law School, allowing for a two-week exam period. Just the right time for our dogs to swoop in and provide stress relief!
