We are a Wisconsin-based 501c3 charitable organization promoting the animal-human bond and literacy through education, evaluation, and participation of therapy animal teams. Dogs On Call is a local chapter of Pet Partners International, one of the premiere therapy animal organizations in the United States. Our 95 all-volunteer members provide free pet visits to brighten

the lives of thousands of patients, eldercare residents, students, and young library patrons in 100+ locations each year. Our Dogs On Call mission is to train, evaluate and mentor new therapy animal teams, so we can fill therapy animal team requests in south central Wisconsin.

Bennie (one of our 'neutral dogs' at team evaluations) and Snickers (one of our therapy cats) first met when Team Snickers tested in 2024. As you can see, they really needed to get up and close with each other. Two years later, when Team Snickers retested, they repeated their greeting (this was not part of the evaluation, they just needed to say 'hello').

DOC team Wendy & Willow are a very active team in more than one way. Not only do they do many visits as a therapy team, they also work together as a team on a paddleboard and at local races that allow dogs, like the Lake Monona 5K/20K, which happens every spring. If you want to give running with your dog a try, check out the Fetch5K, which benefits rescue animals (link in the comments).

Let's welcome new team Gretta & Guinness! Guinness is a King Charles Spaniel! The King Charles Spaniel is named after King Charles II, who ruled in the 17th century. (Current King Charles is Charles III.) Queen Elizabeth II, mostly known for her love of Corgis, also owned King Charles Spaniels. (Little known fact: She was also a breeder of champion labradors.) Gretta and Guinness are interested in the Read With Me program as well as visits to schools, the UW campus, and skilled nursing facilities. Welcome aboard!

Embarrassingly, we didn't celebrate International Dog Day yesterday with a post (because to many of us, every day is Dog Day!), but Dane County Regional Airport did, by featuring several airport teams, including DOC's team Laura & Tank!

We would like to thank Dr. Jody Bearman from AnShen Holistic Veterinary Care for holding a free pet wellness seminar for Dogs On Call last month. Our friend Darby was proud to act as a model patient. A big thank you also to Tami R., Darby's handler, for organizing the event!

UW-Madison's summer programming is coming to an end. All incoming freshmen participate in SOAR, a two-day orientation event at which students meet with advisors and get to know fellow students. It's a period of excitement, mixed with just a little bit of anxiety. Our teams stood at the ready to help families manage this important transition. Pictured here from upper middle to lower left are teams Kay & Jessie, Darby (pet partner to Tami, who also provided the pictures), cat team Nina & Tempi, Lisa & Olive, and Todd & Millie. Thank you all! Let's catch our breath and then jump into the fall semester.

It's team evaluation day! Good luck to all teams registered to test this Sunday and a big thank you to all volunteers who help make this event happen! The picture shows evaluator Lance and "neutral dog" trio Ruth with Bennie & Ash in our new testing location on the East Side. For upcoming evaluation dates, see dogsoncall.org.
