Founded in 1913, Ferrum College provides life-long learning and outstanding career and graduate school preparation in a setting of rich natural beauty. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia, Ferrum is a four-year primarily residential college with easy access to the major metropolitan areas of Roanoke, Virginia (35 miles to the north) and Greensboro, North Carolina (70 miles to the south) where shopping, social, dining and entertainment opportunities abound. Surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers and state parks, Ferrum also boasts a wide variety of venues for outdoor adventure and recreation. Ferrum offers more than 30 areas of study ranging from business and environmental science to teacher education and criminal justice, small class sizes, and a dedicated faculty. The Ferrum experience is rich with opportunities for internships, hands-on learning, international and domestic travel, scholars programs, personal development, and service to the community.

⚾🖤💛 Celebrating a baseball legend and proud Panther!

Ferrum College alumnus and National Baseball Hall of Famer Billy Wagner ’94 returned to his hometown of Tazewell, Virginia, on Saturday for the dedication of Billy Wagner Park and the unveiling of a statue honoring his extraordinary baseball career.

Family, friends, and community members gathered to celebrate Billy’s remarkable accomplishments and lasting legacy. We’re proud to see this Ferrum Panther honored in the community where his journey began!

Congratulations, Billy! 🖤💛🐾

Beginning in fall 2027, Ferrum will launch two innovative academic programs designed to expand student opportunities and meet critical workforce needs across Virginia and beyond:

🔧 Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (BSET), with a focus on applied engineering technologies

🩺 Associate Degree in Nursing to Master of Science in Nursing (ADN to MSN) program
These new programs reflect Ferrum’s commitment to preparing students for in-demand careers and building a stronger future for our communities.

🚀 Big things are happening at Ferrum College!

Ferrum College has secured $1,977,991 in first-year federal funding to develop a new Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology program.

This federal grant funds 100% of first-year implementation to develop a hands-on, career-focused degree designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in civil, construction, and environmental engineering. Through internships, registered apprenticeships, and industry-aligned credentials, students will gain the skills and experience needed to succeed while helping to strengthen the workforce pipeline across rural Southwest Virginia.

This is another step forward in expanding student opportunities and building a stronger future for our region! 🖤💛

🎓 Your Path to a Bachelor’s Degree Just Got Easier! 🖤💛

Ferrum College and Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) have expanded their articulation agreements, creating new pathways for students with associate degrees to earn a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or Teacher Education in as little as two years.
Eligible students can also take advantage of tuition benefits through Ferrum’s Panther Promise program. 🐾

Join the Ferrum book club October 19 for a discussion of “Are You Now or Have You Ever Been? A Novel of the Hollywood Blacklist” by Amanda Cockrell, who will join us for the conversation!

Set against the backdrop of Hollywood’s Golden Age and the Red Scare, Cockrell’s latest novel explores the devastating impact of the Hollywood blacklist through the story of a legendary actress, a controversial will, and long-buried secrets.

📍 Location: Magnolia Room, upstairs in Franklin Hall’s dining hall
🕠 Time: Gather around 5:30 p.m. for dinner and discussion

Mark your calendars for October 30–November 1 and get ready for a weekend full of Panther Pride, reunions, and unforgettable memories at Ferrum College!

🎉 Celebrate the 50th reunion of the Class of 1976 and their induction into the Golden Panthers, along with the 60th reunion of the 1966 Ferrum Junior College Football Team and cheerleaders.

🏈 Enjoy athletic events, the traditional Homecoming football game, tailgating, a play about college history, social gatherings, and more!

🎩 Don’t miss the Black Hat Walk at 12 p.m. on October 31, as we celebrate Ferrum traditions and our Panther family!
