Good with humans, but proper introductions are always recommended!

Your very typical GSD, he can be protective of his female-owners while out on walks. We can help you with that!

🚫 no kitty cats or small animals πŸ”

Crate trained, house broken, LOVES car rides and adventures! Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go!!

If youd like to meet Walnut, please reach out!!

Thank you Jaytay Photography for the awesome pics πŸ“Έ!😍😍😍

And Thank you Your Local Pet Station for not only donating kibble, toys, treats, beds and grooming supplies, but also for helping with Walnut's medical bills!! ❀️❀️❀️

Please fill out an applicaiton on our website- www.highsierralifeline.org

It will take us a day to process your application and then we will give you a call to chat- make sure walnut is the right fit and then we would schedule the meet and greet! We may even have other dogs not listed that may fit your wants/needs you could meet too!

We go off of best-match, instead of first come, first serve, so there is no risk of him being adopted before you get a chance to meet him!

Good news! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ Although his bloodwork doesnt look *great*, it HAS improved!

We are going to continue to monitor him and will have more bloodwork done in a couple of weeks.

The swelling has gone down SIGNIFICANTLY, he's using the leg, and boy has his energy started to return.

The drainage is to be expected, but the tissue is looking about how you would expect it with a rattlesnake bite. We will continue with the antibiotics.

I *think* what happened is that he got bit at least once on the callus of his elbow- probably while laying down-, judging by how paingful he is in ghe front leg, he likely tried getting up without using it... with the muscle-wasting we're seeing from the long-term steroids for his back (getting addresssd on the 18th with our regular vets), the extra strain of trying to get up without the front leg caused him to tweak his back. So, we've kind of been battling 2 very painful issues for him.

Lobo is a stoic guy, but whoo whee does he let you know when it hurts or he's just done. He has been showing a lot of respect, appreciation and restraint during this whole thing and *super surprisingly* the vet today WAS able to draw blood WITHOUT sedation! I know, I know, im so freaking surprised and proud! πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯Ή

Thank you guys so much for your continued support for Lobo. I know he's not a highly-adoptable, super friendly guy, but he really is trying and despite his past, he really does deserve a proper retirement and everything he could need to enjoy it comfortably ❀️❀️

Lab results from his first blood draw and todays

Lobo's follow up blood work is tomorrow morning with Lahontan Valley Vet.

They quoted around $370- ***if** and thats a BIG if- they can draw the blood with only a muzzle and no sedation, it could be up to $100 cheaper... I am *not* super confident they can pull it off, knowing our guy and how he reacts to pain 😬

Lobo is feeling A LOT better ❀️ hes eating and drinking well, taking his meds, he was able to stand and walk on his own! The swelling has gone down a bunch πŸ™Œ

He does have a crazy amount of brown fluid oozing from where I assume he got bit and the area is discolored. Theres a possibility of necrosis or infection- we will know more after tomorrow's bloodwork. Hes on antibiotics and the limited amount of pain relief he can have with his steroids.

Im sorry to have to ask for more funding for Lobo, but he deserves it. The follow up bloodwork will give us a lot more info on how he's doing internally and make sure we're still on the road to recovery.

We lost another OG today πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’”πŸ’”

Thor, who came to us in 2018, spent some time with our good friend Gordon Hutting and before being adopted by one of our serial-adopters-and-fosters (🀣😈) Ryan and Ashley.

Thor was both goofy and serious, loyal, loving and sometimes a big pain in the ass. He was perfect in his own way and so loved.

Its hard watching our OG's age out and cancer absolutely freaking sucks 😭😭😭. Knowing our dogs are loved through the very end keeps us going ❀️

He's not feeling great, but hes doing ok. We're still closely monitoring him and are waiting for scheduling to call to get his follow up bloodwork done.

Crate rest was causing his back to hurt, so we built him a custom crate in the house that allows me to go in and help him stand and gives him double the room with his cone on to turn around.

Ive been hand feeding and watering him as hes having a hard time getting up and down and especially standing.

He doesnt want to put weight on the front leg, so that is causing him to compensate with his back end- which we know has Spondylosis- so hes just..... having a rough go at it right now.

I got him a new bed, hes got blankies, hes getting all the extra spoiled he can- and hes *loving* it!

If you know anything about Lobo, youll know that never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined having Lobo as a house dog 🀣🀣 but.... here he is.....

The moment you've all been waiting for πŸ₯πŸ₯.... and i am so sorry for the delay on an update- I was awake for well over 24 hours by the time we got home, I helped get the morning and afternoon stuff done with the dogs and then I fell asleep 😴 hard.

Lobo and I got to the emergency πŸ₯ vet at 10pm.

By midnight he had some heavy duty pain meds on board.

Bloodwork wasnt super significant, but all signs did point toward snake 🐍 bite. He likely got a very small amount of venom from the snake- thank goodness.

We saw 3 separate areas where his leg was "oozing", but could not find an actual bite.

At 4am he got a vial of antivennin.

At 6 we were heading home. Hospitalization was just not an option.

We will be monitoring πŸ‘€ Lobo *extremely* closely for the next several days. Any changes and we will be heading straight back to the er πŸš‘

He is not out of the woods, but he was able to walk himself out of the vet office which is a major improvement. ❀️❀️

Lobo needs to get his bloodwork re-checked to make sure hes heading in the right direction- the er vet said in 3 days.

His bill was just shy of $1600 and he will have follow-up bloodwork and- depending on how he continues to heal- we need to he prepared to potentially need abother vial of antivennin.

One vial alone was $588 😬😬

Bloodwork was $488.

We are $450 away from covering the original bill and if possible, id like to prep now for the follow-up bloodwork.

I cant thank everyone enough for caring about our old, grumpy retired explosives K9, Lobo. He worked hard for our country, and deserves the best- even with his pre-existing conditions.

We dont throw away old dogs around here, we double down and make sure they get the care they so deserve.

Lobo still high as a kite when we loaded up to leave the er vet.. you can see how swollen his leg is πŸ’”

And of course the bill for last night 😬

Ooof, we need to treat for a rattlesnake bite.

They want a minimum of $1766. Ive got $500.

We're at Animal Emergency Center in Reno.

Is anyone still awake with us?

08/30/2026

Im sorry, its late, but i need to take lobo to the emergency room, like now.

His front leg is swollen, he will not get up on his own, hes breathing heavily.. this has only developed in the last couple of hours and there was nothing out of the ordinary at all today.

I am working on figuring out what vet can safely take care of him the best, but no matter where we go, er needs money up front. As soon as i know where and can get an estimate i will, but ill say probably $200 to get in the door anywhere..

Im sorry, I know this sounds rushed.

I am extremely worried about Lobo and rushing
