Back in October of 2025, a black kitty named Barney came through our doors. It was pretty apparent right away that he was going to have trouble adjusting to shelter life. A family came in and asked about fostering-to-adopt a cat that wasn’t settling well. After a couple of months at home, the family decided they couldn’t see their life without him. He officially became a member of their family in January of 2026.
Here’s an update from Barney’s (now Bentley’s) family:
"It's hard to believe it's been a little over six months since we brought home Barns, formally known as Barney. He quickly became Sir Bentley Barns as he was just a little too majestic to keep the name Barney full-time... although we use it when he's being especially goofy. 😆
Barns was pretty overstimulated in the shelter environment. We still see little glimpses of that from time to time. He's an incredibly sweet boy, well behaved, and gives the best of hugs. He is just a bit cautious and likes to take things at his own pace. Once he knows he's safe, though, he's all in.
In fact, within the first hour of bringing him home, he hopped up on the couch next to me and fell asleep so deeply that his mouth was hanging half open. It honestly looked like he hadn't had a truly relaxing nap in months. That was the moment I knew he was home.
These days he's living his absolute best life as the king of the castle. He loves his daily walks outside to patrol the “kingdom”, climbs trees, watch birds, and catch bugs. 🤣
Inside, he has window perches and cat trees to choose from in nearly every room depending on the mood at the moment.
Barns is now a big brother to Sylvester, aka Lil’ Sly. We adopted Sly a few months ago, and Barns has taken the role of big brother just beautifully. The boys spend their days wrestling, chasing each other through the house, birdwatching, bug catching, and taking walks together. They get along wonderfully, and watching their bond grow warms my heart every day.
Sir Bentley is spoiled rotten, ridiculously handsome, and somehow gets more beautiful every day. He's brought so much love, laughter, and joy into our home.
