It’s Food Waste Prevention Week!

Did you know the average Minnesota family could save $1,500 a year by reducing their food waste?

We have some tips to help you save food and money by reducing food waste at home.

1. When introducing children to new foods, serve smaller portions. This may be less overwhelming and prevent waste if they don’t like it.

2. Save leftovers in the fridge or freezer. Find creative ways to reuse those leftovers.

3. Expiration dates have little to do with food safety. Use your senses to tell if you should eat something. The exception to this is baby formula, which is the only regulated expiration date.

4. Try meal planning three meals each week. Include a night or two for leftovers.

5. Revive limp produce like lettuce and herbs by soaking them in cold water. Or find recipes where appearance doesn’t matter, like pasta sauce.

The Good Acre is proud to work with Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy as a Food Recovery Partner.

Through this partnership, we have committed to gleaning 35,000 pounds of produce from farmers in Ramsey and Washington counties through our LEAFF program to distribute to people who can use it in 2026.

With support from R&E, we recovered over 3,500 pounds of food in Ramsey and Washington counties in July alone!
