Our hearts are with those families affected by the tragic shooting in Bend, Oregon. Schools should be safe places where children can learn, play and grow without fear of violence.

The mental and emotional toll of living in fear is especially profound for children. In moments like this, they may feel frightened or confused. Speaking calmly, listening to their feelings, and offering reassurance can help them feel safe and supported.

Save the Children offers guidance for parents and caregivers on how to talk with children about traumatic events: https://www.savethechildren.org/us/child-protection/resources/how-to-talk-to-children-about-school-shootings

Children may not always tell us they're struggling after a disaster or other difficult experience, but their behavior can give us important clues.

Changes in sleep, appetite, mood or behavior are common responses to stress. Knowing what signs to look for can help you better help the children in your life cope during challenging times.

For Jazmond and Malik, Head Start has been a game changer for their family.

Head Start helped their oldest son, Ben, find his confidence, build friendships and discover a love of learning. Now, his little brother Keonte is thriving there, too!

“He’ll come home and teach us things,” says Malik.

And the impact goes beyond the classroom. Through Head Start, Jazmond and Malik have found a community, valuable family resources and opportunities to help other families access the same support.

Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow and thrive. Head Start helps make that possible. 💛

Behind every headline are people longing for the lives they once knew.

After 3 years of war and 1 year of the so-called “ceasefire,” our colleagues in Gaza share what they miss most and why children and families urgently need a permanent, definitive ceasefire and access to humanitarian support.

For Ria, cricket is more than a game. It’s a way to challenge expectations, build confidence and show her community what girls can do.

Through sport and advocacy, Ria is helping change perceptions about child marriage and creating space for girls to play, learn and dream about their futures.

This , we’re celebrating girls like Ria who are breaking boundaries, on and off the pitch. 🏏

For children facing conflict, displacement and disaster, feeling safe means more than having a roof over their heads. It also means having someone to turn to, a place to feel supported and the space to process what they’ve experienced.

Around the world, Save the Children provides children with emotional and psychological support when they need it most — from safe spaces and creative activities to therapy, psychological first aid and psychosocial support.

When children have the support they need to process difficult experiences, they can begin to heal, rebuild resilience and look toward the future with hope.

This World Day, we’re standing with children everywhere and working to ensure they have the support they need to heal, hope and thrive.

Three years of war. Three years of childhood stolen.

More than 21,500 Palestinian children have been killed in Gaza. Those who have survived have spent years cut off from school, healthcare, safe places to play, and the stability every child deserves. And one year after a “ceasefire" was announced, children are still being killed. A ceasefire that doesn’t keep children safe is a ceasefire in name only.

Gaza’s children cannot afford another lost year. They need a definitive ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, and the chance to simply be children again. ❤️‍🩹

As Hurricane Isaias strengthens and moves toward the northern Gulf Coast, children and families across Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida are bracing for hurricane-force winds, dangerous storm surge, and power outages.

Save the Children is already taking action.

Our U.S. Emergency Response Team is on the ground, mobilizing alongside local partners to support the communities we have served for decades. As the leading child-focused emergency responder in the U.S., we know families need support both before and after disaster strikes.

We’ve activated our Children’s Emergency Fund, taking an innovative step to help families prepare before disaster strikes. Working with and other disability-focused partners, we're providing cash assistance to families with disabilities, giving them flexible support before the storm arrives.

After the storm, Save the Children will be there to help restore childcare and early learning centers the storm may have damaged. Its psychosocial team is also prepared to support long-term mental health recovery and help children and caregivers cope with the emotional impacts of a disaster.
