Do you have medical debt? Read this!

Thousands of people in our state will soon have some of their medical debt erased. This is the second episode of this type (where medication was substituted with an inert solution) that I am aware of and which has been publicized, involving this hospital system. If we can't trust the quality of our care in a hospital, in fact with any provider, one of our most necessary fundamental trusts is being broken. There is solid data to demonstrate some of the reasons why patients are dissatisfied with their health insurance coverages and the companies themselves. "In 2018, a case manager would need to initiate on average 16 phone calls or emails to resolve a claim; now, it’s 27, said Caitlin Donovan," a Patient Advocate Foundation spokesperson. We should be asking why, does insurance coverage need to be this difficult to maneuver? Is this a designed strategic tactic? We feel that patients should be part of the conversation and solution addressing this and other healthcare problems.

Data shows that U.S. patients are now more likely to have their claims denied, pay more for premiums, and face unexpected costs for care.

"For the fourth season in a row, Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital, Saint Raphael Campus earned a “C” on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

More than half of Connecticut hospitals received a grade higher than YNHH and its Saint Raphael campus."

Based on a hospital review system by the Leapfrog Group, Yale New Haven Hospital and the Saint Raphael Campus performed worse than many other Connecticut hospitals in patient safety.
