That's a wrap on our Q2 Exchange. πŸ‘
On Tuesday, employers, educators, and partners filled IBEW Local 16 to take on the myths and misconceptions around work-based learning and to get honest about the barriers still in the way.
Roughly 36,000 workers in our region are at or near retirement. 68,000 jobs to fill by 2030. AI is reshaping the entry-level rung. The question was never whether we build talent, it's where and how.
Work-based learning is one of the clearest answers. And it's no longer optional: Indiana's new diploma requires high school graduates to complete several hours worth (up to 650!) of WBL. The demand is guaranteed. And industry partners who are early movers get first pick.
Big thanks to our panelists and guest speakers who helped break down the barriers to WBL in our region:
β€’ Sam Rourke, Assistant Commissioner for CTE, Indiana Commission for Higher Education
β€’ Jason Graves, Senior Director of WBL & Apprenticeships, Indiana Department of Workforce Development
β€’ Nioka Clark, Senior Director of Workforce Strategies, Ascend Indiana
And thank you to Caleb Heiman, 8th Grade Teacher at North Jr High School for providing a success story in Regional WBL that will inspire us all!
This is just the start of the conversation. Let's keep building.
