This past week, our team member Hannah attended the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa & Associated Disorders (National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders) Golden Gala, celebrating five decades of eating disorder support, education, and advocacy. ANAD began right in our backyard in Highland Park and has since grown to serve people across the country and around the world.

The evening featured an inspiring keynote from Olympic gold medalist figure skater Danny O'Shea, along with a chance to connect with colleagues old and new, and to honor the community advocates, clinicians, and researchers who have shaped ANAD's remarkable growth and impactful services.

At Connections, we are passionate about supporting people navigating eating and body image concerns, and we are grateful to learn from and collaborate with partners like ANAD. Here's to the next 50 years!

This weekend, Connections team members Joyce and Hannah had the pleasure of meeting award-winning author Min Jin Lee. At an event hosted by FAN - Family Action Network, Lee joined Dr. Megan Bang of SESP in conversation about her newest book, American Hagwon. The book explores the Korean diaspora through themes of education, the immigrant experience, family, and identity. We can't wait to read it and learn from it.

These themes resonate deeply with our work supporting students from diverse backgrounds, countries, and cultures. We're committed to meeting each student with care for their whole story. In that spirit, we're hosting "Sip and Celebrate: International Day at Connections" this Friday – a warm, welcoming space to connect, de-stress, and feel understood, facilitated by mental health professionals passionate about supporting international students.

We're a proud sponsor of FAN and are grateful for opportunities like these to participate in their wonderful and accessible programs, which align with our commitments at Connections too. We hope you can join us for their October roster of events!

You may have spent years wondering why your brain works the way it does – why some things feel effortless, while others take everything you may have.

ADHD can show up differently in adulthood than many of the stereotypes we’re used to hearing. Challenges with organization, time management, getting started on tasks, or feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities can all be part of the picture. And because these experiences can overlap with stress, anxiety, burnout, and other concerns, understanding what’s really going on often takes more than a checklist.

Our Adult ADHD Assessments take a comprehensive look at your experiences, strengths, challenges, and history to help provide greater clarity and direction.

Earlier this Summer, we had the opportunity to partner with a local organization, Paws for Patrick for an event for therapists centered on integrating emotional support animals (ESAs) into mental health practice. Daniel Maigler, LCSW, and Craig Scalise, PhD, delivered an incredibly informative and engaging presentation, and we’d love to share a bit about what we learned.

Feeling burnt out before your career has even started?

You're not alone. For many college students and early-career professionals, recruiting season can feel like a full-time job. Between networking, applications, interviews, and waiting to hear back, it's easy to start believing that your worth is tied to your next offer.

The truth is: your resume reflects what you've accomplished – not who you are. While it's natural to care about your future, constant comparison and pressure to "keep up" can leave you feeling emotionally exhausted long before classes or work even begin.

If recruiting has been taking a toll on your mental health, try to remember:
→ Your career is only one part of your identity.
→ Rest is productive, especially during periods of chronic stress.
→ One rejection does not define your potential.

At Connections Health, we work with college students and young adults navigating stress, anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, and major life transitions. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by recruiting, adjusting to college, or simply looking for additional support, we're here to help. Feel free to also learn more in our latest blog on rejection sensitivity, a common experience that can show up in early professional experiences, linked in our bio.

💙 Save this post for the next time recruiting starts to feel overwhelming – and share it with someone who might need the reminder.

Last week, we were grateful to host Daniel Maigler, LCSW, Craig Scalise, PhD, and Cali from Paws for Patrick, an organization dedicated to supporting the mental health of young people through connection with animals. Dan and Craig gave a very informative and engaging CE presentation on emotional support animals (ESAs) in mental health practice.

At Connections over the years, we have written ESA letters to support our clients, and wanted to deepen our knowledge in this area while connecting with our local professional community. We really enjoyed learning from Dan and Craig, and look forward to continuing to collaborate. If you'd like to learn more about Paws For Patrick and support their mission, you can visit https://www.pawsforpatrick.org/. To connect with us, you can visit https://connections-health.com/.

We hope you enjoy following along with this recap of a wonderful evening!
