Northwestern's Caribbean Student Alliance: Celebrating Culture, Building Community
In February 1999, the process of establishing CaribNation began when the founders expressed their vision of an organization with a strong foundation and far reaching goals that would offer guidance to undergraduates of Caribbean descent. With this in mind, the purpose/mission of the Northwestern University’s Caribb
ean Students Alliance is defined as an organization founded:
1. To provide support for Caribbean and Caribbean-American students at Northwestern University by establishing programming that helps to preserve, publicize and celebrate the cultures of the Caribbean islands, acting as a strong, collective voice for the needs and concerns of these students.
2. To provide the entire Northwestern community as well as the Evanston (IL) and greater Chicago communities with a deeper understanding of the roots and histories of the Caribbean cultures, an increased awareness of the current socioeconomic and political status of the Caribbean islands and the skills and knowledge needed to uplift the Caribbean community on a local and international level.
3. To establish strong ties with the surrounding Caribbean community by performing community service and attending cultural events within the community and having members of the community attend CaribNation events.
