Sometimes service means staffing the pony rides. Kelly Fidei and Jason Kaiser, volunteers from Evanston Lighthouse Rotary, spent the afternoon making sure children had a memorable ride and families could simply enjoy the day.

Sometimes it means being a good sport. Shawn Iles manned the dunk tank, taking the plunge more than 20 times, always ready to climb back up for another round.

And sometimes it means keeping the ice cream flowing. Jeff Snyder and Rod Gardner helped keep the line moving while fellow Rotarian Clarence Weaver, owner of the ice cream truck, generously served cone after cone — 500 of them — before finally serving the very last scoop. Turns out even endless ice cream has an end. Service took a different form: holding up the “Line Closed” sign with an apologetic grin.

Service takes many forms.

The Connections for the Homeless Family Fest Block Party brought together neighbors from across Evanston for an afternoon of fun, connection, and community. Evanston Lighthouse Rotary volunteers were proud to support the event, joining community members in creating a welcoming celebration while advancing the shared work of ending homelessness and ensuring everyone has the opportunity for a stable home.

And one final mystery: when Bill Glader wrapped up his volunteer shift with Sanctuary Evanston, someone left behind a blue water bottle. If it belongs to you—or you know whose it is—please let us know so we can reunite it with its owner. 💙

Our goal of ridding the world of polio is closer than ever. Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

But if eradication efforts stopped today, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year within ten years.

Last Saturday, members of the Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club were proud to help organize the celebration and participate in the Fourth of July Parade. It was a joy to serve alongside our community and celebrate the spirit of unity, service, and freedom.
