Hello, Equestrian Friends! As you know, few things are more dangerous to horses than barbed wire. That's why we're excited to share that EFMP volunteers cleaned up a section of downed barbed wire in the north bottomlands!

LOST: Handmade hoof pick

One of our equestrian friends lost a handmade hoofpick that was given to her by a dearly departed loved one. It has a handmade wooden handle with a red, white, and blue string attached.

She believes she maybe have dropped the pick in the North Bottomlands parking lot, in the last two weeks. She typically parks on the left side of the lot, just past the trail opening.

Looking to expose your equine to something new? Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah recently completed a beneficial prescribed burn in the North Bottomlands. It created a unique landscape to explore until the grasses return.

Heads up, Equestrian Friends! Some of the Noth Bottomlands trails will be closed tomorrow, 9/16.

Prescribed fire planned for tomorrow 9/16 in Howard Buford Recreation Area in the North Bottomlands near the Friends Native Plant Nursery.
Please steer clear of burn areas and expect trail closures.

Want to ride at Mount Pisgah, but your equine's not quite in shape to reach the summit? Try the North Bottomland trails!

Here's a 3-mile option that offers a mild ride with a little hill work at the beginning and end of the route. While you're there, stop at the arena to check out the new footing!

Last week, folks near Mount Pisgah got quite a scare when a small field fire started off Hwy 58. Thanks to fire personnel and local neighbors, the fire was quickly under control.

Unfortunately, that won't always be the case, so it's important to be prepared for a fire emergency. Follow the link below to learn more about how to be prepared.

Lane County Parks is making some great improvements to the Arboretum parking lot this summer! Since parking in that lot will be limited during construction, there may be more activity in the north and east parking areas. Please plan accordingly.

🚧 Parking Lot Improvements Coming to Howard Buford Recreation Area/Mount Pisgah

Lane County Parks will begin upgrades to the Arboretum parking lot at Howard Buford Recreation Area this summer. These improvements will create a safer, more accessible experience, including better connections between parking levels.

What work is being done?
• Parking lot reconstruction and paving
• ADA parking
• Stairs between levels
• Expanded drop off zone

What to expect:
• July - October, completion prior to Mushroom Festival
• The lot will remain open, but access will be limited
• Construction activity, noise, and flaggers on site
• Reduced parking and possible congestion

Planning a visit?
If you're heading out for a hike, consider using the North Bottomlands lot or East Trailhead for easier access. We encourage carpooling during this time to allow for more parking availability.

We’re coordinating closely with Mount Pisgah Arboretum to support continued access to their programs and events.

FYI: Lane County Parks will be upgrading the final half-mile of the Summit Trail from June 8 through July 1, with work completed by Oregon Woods.

Lane County Parks will be upgrading the final half-mile of the Summit Trail from June 8 through July 1, with work completed by Oregon Woods.

Improvements will include rock and obstacle removal, drainage upgrades, fresh gravel placement, and leveling uneven sections to improve stability, accessibility, and safety while preserving the natural character of the trail.

Visitors should expect periodic closures, delays, and equipment in the area during construction. Signage will be posted at trail access points.

These upgrades are designed to create a smoother, more accessible route to the summit for all visitors, including all-terrain wheelchair users.
