The Comfort Cub The Comfort Cub Story

After my son George died, my heart hurt so much and my arms felt so empty. It's not only the mother who suffers though. Thank you. Marcella

However, I found that when I held a weighted object close to my chest, the pain in my heart and aching in my arms immediately went away. I began to research and found out that both of these physical symptoms can be common after the loss of a child. At that time there were no medical terms for these physical symptoms, but now it is recognized as a medical condition called "Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy"

(ICD 9- 429.83) for the aching in the heart and "Empty Arm Syndrome" for the pain in the arms. I felt inspired and compelled to create a weighted teddy bear for others who were grieving a similar loss. I wanted to make sure no other mothers left the hospital empty-handed and broken hearted the way I did. While it is no substitute for the loss of a child, it does help ease the pain of empty arms. Fathers, siblings and even grandparents are in pain too. I have received many letters and stories about how The Comfort Cub helped ease their pain as well. Please share with those who may benefit.

We are so blessed to have our local Sheriff (retired NYS Police) help us with our 25th Memorial Fundraiser for 9/11. This man like so many others spent weeks in NYC in the aftermath of this tragedy. We are grateful for their service and for the donation to help us bring 1200 of our weighted therapeutic bears to families directly impacted by this tragedy. If you’d like to help please see the fundraiser pinned at the top of the page or message us directly 🧸💜

When we hear the expression “time flys”, I can’t help but think of this young man Elio. On this date in 2019 he and his mother survived the Gilroy Garlic Festival mass shooting. At the time he was only 9 yrs old. We connected across the country through a support group and I sent him one of our weighted therapeutic bears - The Comfort Cub hoping it would help him sleep. We’ve stayed in touch over the years and he is now 16 yrs old! I feel blessed we were able to play a small part in his healing journey. If you’d like to help those who have suffered from loss or trauma, please consider donating to help us bring 1200 cubs to families impacted by 9/11. Time flys - it’s been 25 yrs and we should never forget. Link below for more info.

💜🌈 2026 Small Town Pride Shining Star Recipient is The Comfort Cubs 🧸✨

At Small Town Pride, we believe that love isn’t just spoken, it’s shown through action. Every year, our Shining Star recognizes an organization making a profound difference in the lives of others, and we are incredibly honored that our 2026 recipient is Comfort Cubs.

For 27 years, Comfort Cubs has been providing therapeutic weighted teddy bears to children and adults experiencing some of life’s most unimaginable moments-grief, trauma, loss, illness, and tragedy. These bears are so much more than stuffed animals. They offer comfort when words fail, a sense of security during the darkest days, and a reminder that no one has to carry their pain alone.

Pictured with Sara is the incredible Beverly King, who has dedicated the last 9 years as a Comfort Cubs Ambassador after surviving the tragic Las Vegas shooting in 2017. Through her own unimaginable experience, Beverly chose to turn pain into purpose, helping bring hope and healing to countless others. Her compassion and unwavering commitment are nothing short of inspiring.

It was our privilege to present our donation to Comfort Cubs, knowing it will help place these special bears into the arms of people who need comfort the most. Moments like these remind us that Pride isn’t just about one month or one community, it’s about showing up for humanity with kindness, compassion, and love.

To Beverly, to Comfort Cubs, and to every person whose life has been touched by one of these incredible bears, thank you for reminding us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference. ❤️

Congratulations on being named Small Town Pride’s 2026 Shining Star. Your light continues to shine brightly for so many!!

UPDATE: We are 60% to our goal with a few more checks coming this week!! Please consider helping us bring a little comfort to those who lost so much this tragic day. Any amount helps! Sharing with friends and family makes a difference. Msg if you would prefer to donate by check directly. 🧸💜

We are beyond blessed to have been invited to participate in the memorial events planned for 9/11 in NYC. It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since this horrific tragedy impacted this entire country. Our plan is to gift over 1000 of our weighted therapeutic bears to families that will be in attendance. This is a massive undertaking for our small nonprofit, however we know how much they will help families understand that we have not forgotten. Please consider donating to help us offset the transportation & logistical fees of getting over 1000 Cubs from California to NY. Every dollar makes a difference and is tax deductible. We also appreciate if you could share. 🧸💜
