Four.
That's how many Fairchild 24 C8A aircraft are still registered with the FAA. Out of approximately 25 originally produced in 1933–1934. Four survived.
N957V — Serial 2525 — is one of them. Manufactured May 4, 1934, at the Kreider-Reisner factory in Hagerstown, Maryland. Powered by the 125-horsepower Warner Super Scarab radial. One of the earliest and most enclosed-cabin touring aircraft of its era, at a time when most personal aircraft still had open cockpits.
The man who built this factory — Sherman Mills Fairchild — was the son of a U.S. congressman. His father's business interests eventually became IBM. Sherman went on to found Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957, the company that seeded Silicon Valley.
Before all of that, this airplane was certified on May 8, 1934, in Hagerstown. Now it's in El Reno. Come see it.
Free admission. Open Tue–Fri 10am–4pm and Saturdays 10am–2pm. El Reno, OK.
