**FRIENDLY PSA FROM YOUR ACOS**
Things That Are NOT an Animal Control Officer’s Fault or Responsibility.
Let’s talk about some situations that we hear about on a regular basis.
Taking your Pet to the police station because:
🐾 You are moving and cannot take your animals.
🐾 You are being evicted and have nowhere to take your animals.
🐾 You moved into a property that does not allow pets, but you brought them anyway, and now your landlord is making you remove them.
🐾 You agreed to take an animal from someone you know, a friend, family member or even a stranger, but now you no longer want the responsibility.
🐾 You took on too many animals and can no longer handle the financial or physical responsibility.
🐾 You had an emergency, but you failed to make arrangements for someone to care for your pets.
🐾 You can no longer afford to provide food, medical care, or basic necessities for your animals.
🐾 Your pets no longer get along, and now you want to get rid of one of them.
🐾 Your dog is aggressive toward people or other animals, and now you can no longer manage or keep your dog.
🐾 Your pet was not properly trained and you don’t want and or know how to deal with it anymore.
Here is the reality….
Life happens. Emergencies happen. Circumstances change. We understand that.
But none of these situations automatically make it your animal Animal Control’s and or city's responsibility.
When you take ownership of an animal, you are accepting responsibility for that animal for its entire life. That includes planning for the unexpected, finding pet-friendly housing, arranging backup care, taking financial responsibility and making responsible decisions when circumstances change.
Animal Control is NOT a surrender facility, boarding facility or guaranteed placement service.
The responsibility of finding a safe and appropriate home for your pet ultimately belongs to YOU.
Please stop making your lack of planning an emergency that someone else is expected to solve.
Your pet did not choose your circumstances. YOU chose to bring that pet into your life.
Please be responsible for the life you agreed to protect.
Thanks 🐾
