***Trigger Warning: Transphobia, murder, death***

The Trans Day of Remembrance, or TDOR, is recognized annually on November 20th. It is a day to remember and honor lives which were lost to anti-transgender violence. The observance was started by Gwendolyn Ann Smith in honor of Rita Hester, a trans woman who was killed in 1998.
In Smith’s words,
“The Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people -- sometimes in the most brutal ways possible -- it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice.”

The Inters*x Day of Remembrance, also known as Inters*x Solidarity Day, is observed yearly since 2005 on November 8th, the birthday of Herculine Barbin. Barbin was assigned female at birth, and was discovered to be inters*x during a doctor’s visit. She was later reassigned male by the court, and suffered an untimely death months later from psychological stress. Joëlle-Circé Laramée, the Canadian Spokeswoman for Organisation Inters*x International (OII) at the time, issued a call to commemorate this day for inters*x rights. The founder of this Remembrance Day, Gina Wilson, says Barbin is the the earliest record of an inters*x person being subjected to the “plague on inters*x - the process of normalisation and binary assignments according to external appearances irrespective of internal self-knowledge and factual certainty that there is more to s*x than a simple binary.” Unfortunately, not much has changed today. Inter phobia, negative attitudes against inters*x people, is still going strong in society, affecting babies and women of color in particular. They are mutilated and killed, among many other things.

It's Inters*x Awareness Day!

Fun fact: Being Inters*x is about as common as having naturally red hair!

On a heavier note, Inters*x people face massive discrimination. Inters*x babies usually have their ge****ls surgically altered shortly after birth to conform to ideas of "maleness" or "femaleness." This is often done even without the consent or knowledge of the parents, leading to Inters*x people often having significant difficulties later in life, particularly during puberty.

On this day and every day, remember Inters*x people exist and that they should have their own say about their bodies!

Happy As*xual Awareness Week! (Or AAW, because aces are adorable.)

No matter where you lie on the spectrum, you are valid, and this week is for you.
And even if you have a potential "cause" to your as*xuality, like experience, medication, mental illness, etc., if you feel you are part of this community, you are.
You are also part of the LGBT+ community as much as you want to be. Being as*xual is q***r enough, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Lastly, know that you are enough if you're a partner to someone, even if you don't experience s*xual attraction to them, and/or if you're s*x repulsed. Don't let anyone make you do things you're uncomfortable with. Not doing certain things doesn't make your love any less valid.

I love all of you, and if you need someone to talk to about your experience (or if you're questioning), please feel free to reach out to me.

Happy AAW! 💜🖤
