BELVEDERE CASINO BURNED DOWN

Structure Fire at Ferry and Belvedere Under Investigation
Charlevoix, MI — October 23, 2025

At approximately 3:15 a.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police observed a fully engulfed structure fire at the Belvedere Club "Casino," building located in the 200 block of Ferry Avenue.
Charlevoix Township Fire Department and Lake Charlevoix Fire Department responded to the scene. Charlevoix Township Fire Department extinguished the fire. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and had been closed for the season. The
"Casino" is typically used for Belvedere Club gatherings and events during the summer months.

There were no reported injuries. Arson is suspected, and a 44-year-old Charlevoix Township man has been arrested in connection with the incident. The case remains active and under investigation.

Chief Thorp stated that the building was a complete loss.

The 43rd Boo Boo Memorial was a success, with good turnouts for golf and dinner. We had a 30-minute pause in the golf after nine holes due to lightening, but the skies brightened and we finished in time for dinner.

The team of Howard Stover, Stuart & Lori Boekeloo, and Max & Michael J Fagan posted a record score of -16.

Tim Fagan, Brady Corcoran and Sam Sharp provided the wonderful music which got many toes tapping. The great grand kids of Helen & Stan Stover and Betty & Tom Fagan were the life of the party.

Thanks to all of those who joined us and those who couldn't make it but sent contributions!!

The 44th Boo Boo Memorial is expected to take place at Belvedere on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The 2025 Betsy Stover Fagan Memorial Scholarship recipient is

Lainey Hampton

Lainey plans to attend MSU to study psychology in hope of helping the disabled with mental health.
She also hopes to join the wheelchair basketball team.

The other candidates received smaller awards for their participation.

On May 15th, Susie Stover Fagan and Paul Fagan interviewed 5 scholarship candidates at ELHS. They were all deserving, and as usual, we struggled to pick just one recipient.

Lainey Hampton, was featured in the student newspaper. Her neurologic challenges resemble some of Betsy’s experiences with her brain tumor.

Betsy Stover Fagan was born 71 years ago today. She is still missed by many of us.
