Join one of MDRC’s leadership programs, Leaders for Inclusion (LFI), for Disability Identity & Intersectionality on Thursday, July 9. This virtual training will introduce the concept of intersectionality and explore how race, gender, disability, and other identities shape our experiences.

Participants will have time to reflect, learn from videos featuring disabled leaders, and consider how identity, community, and lived experience connect.

On June 22, 1999, the U.S. Supreme Court issued the Olmstead decision. The Court said unnecessary segregation of disabled people is discrimination under the ADA.

Olmstead helped affirm that disabled people have the right to receive services in the community, where we live, work, learn, and build relationships. Now, how this law is interpreted is being questioned. Learn more about this history and what we can do to protect our right to live in the community.

MDRC’s Leaders for Inclusion (LFI) program is hosting a Disability Advocacy Workshop: Preparing for Meetings with Legislators on Thursday, June 25, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. This virtual training will break down how to communicate with legislators and provide practical tools for one-on-one and group advocacy meetings. Participants will learn strategies for sharing their stories, building relationships with policymakers, and preparing for effective conversations that support community change. ASL and CART captioning will be provided.

Pride Month is also a time to recognize living leaders who continue to shape disability justice today.

Leroy F. Moore Jr. is a Black disabled writer, activist, poet, musician, and cultural worker. Born with cerebral palsy, Moore’s work centers the experiences of Black disabled people, disabled artists, and people living at the intersections of race, disability, queerness, poverty, policing, and culture.

Moore is the founder of Krip Hop Nation, co-founder of Sins Invalid, and a founding member of the National Black Disability Coalition. His work challenges racism and ableism while creating space for disabled artists, especially Black disabled musicians and cultural workers whose contributions have too often been overlooked.
