A CASA advocate can be a lifeline for a child, offering the steady presence and genuine care that every child deserves, especially those who have faced unimaginable hardships. Imagine the difference one compassionate adult can make.

Today we pulled off a surprise lunch to celebrate our Executive Director Tim’s first year at CASA of Middlesex. Pulling off the surprise was a mix of luck and perfect timing.

We were truly grateful for the chance to connect with the amazing team at the New Jersey Department of Children and Families Coastal location yesterday. CASA of Middlesex staff traveled down to share a brief presentation, sparking a lively and thoughtful conversation about how we can best work together to support children in out-of-home placement. Partnerships like these empower us to make a real difference for those who need it most. Heartfelt thanks to DCPP Coastal for their warm hospitality.

This is Brian. He’s one of the Program Coordinators at CASA of Middlesex and a terrific member of our team. Last week, Brian led a training that he has been carefully building for the past couple of months for CASA advocates that work with adolescents (ages 14+). Currently, our organization is serving 36 young people who fall in this age range. The training provided each advocate with the tools and resources to participate in enrichment activities with their CASA youth, opening new doors to healthy engagement while strengthening relationships. (It was such a positive experience that we forgot to take a picture! So, we grabbed one in the office today to honor and recognize Brian’s commitment and effort.)

And a special thanks to the team at New Brunswick Theological Seminary for kindly allowing us the use of their space to conduct the training!

“I just love this experience,” stated Alicia Bridges, reflecting on her role as an advocate with CASA of Middlesex County. “It brings me so much joy to work with these young people and give back at this level.” Her words were meaningful, not just because of her commitment to our mission (on top of juggling a full-time job as a chef in NYC), but also because of her own lived experience in the foster care system after losing both of her parents at a young age.

While Alicia understands the complexity that surrounds this work, she is also keenly aware of how consistency, presence, and compassion can lead to incredible outcomes for a vulnerable young person. It’s a privilege to know Alicia and to witness her commitment to the individuals that we serve.
