As we head into the Independence Day holiday weekend, I want to encourage everyone across New Jersey to take the current High Heat Advisory seriously. Forecasts indicate temperatures and heat index values may exceed 100 degrees on July 3rd and July 4th, creating potentially dangerous conditions for many residents.
Please stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, wear lightweight clothing, and seek air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
Extreme heat can quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, particularly among older adults, young children, individuals with chronic health conditions, and those who work or spend extended time outdoors. Check on family members, neighbors, and friends who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.
Warning signs of heat-related illness include dizziness, nausea, headache, excessive sweating, confusion, rapid pulse, and weakness. If someone shows signs of heat stroke, seek immediate medical attention.
As Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New Jersey, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, I encourage all of our members and friends to look out for one another during this period of extreme heat. A simple phone call or visit to check on a neighbor can make a tremendous difference.
Please stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy a happy and healthy Independence Day weekend.
Fraternally,
Joseph Miczak
