📢 In case you missed it, some important updates since our last post. In short, progress is being made in addressing the PFAS in our water but the town needs to keep a sense of urgency.

1️⃣ Duxbury has published its 2023 Consumer Confidence Report on the town website here:https://www.town.duxbury.ma.us/sites/g/files/vyhlif10506/f/uploads/ccr2023-ma019862-1_wr.pdf The report has improved but still lacking in detail and comprehensiveness, especially given some of the issues we are facing in town.

2️⃣ Progress has been made on PFAS Remediation Plan at Partridge Road well: a preliminary design has been drafted and is currently being reviewed. A project schedule can be found below.

📢 In case you missed it, some important updates from the year thus far:

1️⃣ On April 10th, the EPA announced the final national drinking water regulations for six PFAS. Beginning in five years (2029), public water systems that have PFAS in drinking water which violates one or more of these MCLs must take action to reduce levels of these PFAS in their drinking water and must provide notification to the public of the violation.

2️⃣ Duxbury Safe Water was awarded a $20,000 technical assistance grant by MassDEP to assist us in our efforts to ensure that the contamination originating from the McNeil Dump (which includes PFAS) does not continue to pollute our public water supply.

3️⃣ After Duxbury Safe Water alerted town officials, Duxbury was awarded settlement monies as a result of its inclusion in the South Carolina federal district court litigation against 3M for dumping PFAS-laden product into the McNeil Dump.

A busy start to the year with more to come!

Received word today that "EPA administrator Regan just announced during the keynote at the Society of Environmental Journalists meeting that the long awaited PFAS MCLs [(Maximum Contaminant Levels)]are coming next week. So get ready!"

This is what we’ve been working towards-to ensure that Duxbury drinking water is safe and compliant with these anticipated regulations. We will keep you updated.

✅ We urge Duxbury residents to vote YES on two crucial warrant articles at Town Meeting on Saturday, March 9 that are aimed at addressing PFAS contamination in our town wells to ensure the safety of our drinking water.

Communities, including Duxbury, will be required to address contamination due to new EPA standards that underscore the serious health risks of PFAS. Delay in acting not only prolongs long-term health risks for residents, especially children, but will also lead to increased costs for addressing the issue.

Article 14 is funding a project to evaluate which well facilities should be prioritized for improvements

Article 15 is funding design and permitting services for priority projects identified through Article 14

Vote YES for the health and wellbeing of our town and community.
