🧡 International Day of Charity — September 5 🧡

Since 2012 September 5th has been the International Day of Charity, a day that reminds us of something we see every day at Christians Concerned:

When people care enough to help, lives can change.

Charity isn't always about making a large donation. It can be giving a few hours of your time, donating food or household necessities, sharing resources, supporting a fundraiser, or simply telling someone about an organization that can help.

At Christians Concerned, we have also learned that charity works best when a community works together. Churches, businesses, nonprofits, volunteers, donors, and individuals each bring something different to the table. No one organization can do everything—but together, we can do a great deal.

So today, we celebrate everyone who gives—not only to Christians Concerned, but to all of the wonderful nonprofit organizations serving our community.

Give where your heart leads you.
Volunteer where your talents can be used.
Support the organizations doing work you believe in.

And most importantly, never underestimate what one act of kindness can start. ❤️

It’s encouraging to see Oklahoma cities and towns recognizing food insecurity for what it is—a systemic community issue that takes all of us working together to address.

Thank you to the City of Oklahoma City - Government for taking action and showing what local government can do when it becomes part of the solution.

It also makes us wonder: What could communities across our part of Oklahoma do?

We challenge our friends in the City of Duncan OK- City Government, Lawton Oklahoma, City Government, Town of Velma, City of Marlow, City of Comanche, and other communities throughout our region to look for ways to strengthen and support the organizations already fighting hunger in their own backyards.

With more than 15% of Stephens County experiencing food insecurity, chances are most of us know someone affected by it—even if we don't realize it. Food insecurity isn't always visible. It may be a senior choosing between groceries and utilities, a working family whose paycheck doesn't quite stretch to the end of the month, or a parent quietly eating less so their children can eat more.

Local government doesn't have to solve hunger by itself. Neither can food pantries.

But cities, towns, nonprofits, churches, businesses, food banks, donors, volunteers, and neighbors can each bring something to the table.

We especially want to thank the City of Duncan and every local municipality already supporting food pantries and hunger-relief organizations. That support matters.

Food insecurity belongs to the entire community—and so does the solution.

What could your community bring to the table? ❤️
