The report is discouraging. We have much more to do to help veterans.

Hi Folks!!

We all know “FREEDOM ISN’T FREE.” It is the service and sacrifices of those men and women who have put on the uniform to protect and defend the freedoms of Our Country.

Each year at MISSION BBQ, we make Veterans Day a very special day. It is our privilege to honor and support Our Uniformed American Heroes. As a small gesture of appreciation, all Veterans and Active-Duty Military are served a Free Sandwich on Veterans Day.

At noon, we will have a live performance of the National Anthem and we will recognize all Our Veterans in attendance as well as Honor a special guest or two. It would be our privilege to SERVE you.

Please share the attached flyer on Social media and within your communities.

Never forget. 🇺🇸

There were 75 firehouses in which at least one member was killed.
The FDNY also lost its department chief, first deputy commissioner, one of its marshals, one of its chaplins, as well as other administrative or specialty personnel.
On 9-11, 121 engine companies, 62 ladder companies and 27 fire officers were deployed to the world trade center.
All off-duty firefighters were recalled — the first time the FDNY had issued a total recall in over 30 years.

We honor and remember all Purple Heart recipients. 💜

On this day, General George Washington introduced the Badge of Military Merit—what we now know as the Purple Heart—an honor for “any singularly meritorious action.” In the brutal final stretch of the Revolutionary War, Washington did something radical: he created a decoration that could be awarded to rank-and-file soldiers, not just officers. That choice spoke volumes about the kind of nation he hoped would emerge—one that valued merit, service, and sacrifice over pedigree.

Here’s a detail many don’t know: Washington ordered that the original badges be made of purple cloth, heart-shaped and hand-stitched, and he personally recorded the names of early recipients in regimental books so their deeds wouldn’t fade. The award fell into disuse after the Revolution and wasn’t revived until 1932—on the bicentennial of Washington’s birth—when it officially became the Purple Heart we recognize today, honoring those wounded or killed in action. Its roots trace back to a commander who believed ordinary soldiers deserved extraordinary recognition.

We honor you.🇺🇸

This is pretty cool! Stacie Jorgensen, who is a Sandy City Fire Department firefighter, was selected as the July firefighter of the month for the national publication Fire Dept. Coffee.

Stacie is battling cancer and giving it one heck of a fight. She’s married to my friend and baseball teammate Jeff Jorgensen. He’s also a Sandy firefighter and told me about this selection, which is a big deal in the firefighting world. Here’s the write up they did on her:
