Building thriving neighborhoods and communities for young kids and families in Detroit 🌱 By third grade, only 14% read at grade level. We must and can do better.

Brilliant Detroit is a non-profit dedicated to building “kid success neighborhoods” where families with children ages 0-8 have what they need to be school-ready, healthy and supported. We do this by purchasing and renovating underutilized homes in the middle of neighborhoods, and transforming them into community hubs where we offer evidence-based programming in the areas of education, health, fami

ly support, and neighbor-to-neighbor connections. Today, 60% of Detroit children under five live in poverty with the majority of kids not ready for kindergarten. Added to this is the fact that 30,000 of the city’s children have zero early learning and child care options available to them in their neighborhood. Brilliant Detroit was created to coordinate and connect what works for families and kids in a centrally-located, welcoming place that provides love, safety, and opportunities for growth. Together, we can build a future where a zip code does not determine a child's success.

Summer is off to a strong start at our neighborhood hubs!

At the Chandler Park site, the adults got to work planting and harvesting in the garden. The Osborn site had their last day with Ms. Jessica, facilitator of the Art Space program, and at the Central hub, the little ones played while they’re caregivers stretched and relaxed in yoga.

A special thank you to the Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. Alpha Gamma Omega Detroit Alumni Chapter for supporting our recent Community Fun Day at Chandler Park!

The fraternity brothers helped create a fun and welcoming experience for families from both the Chandler Park and Outer Drive-Hayes neighborhoods.

This wasn't their first time volunteering with Brilliant Detroit. Since first getting involved during our holiday events at Russell Woods and Fitzgerald, they've continued to lend their time and energy to support children and families across our neighborhoods. Last call for golfers!

Register today at tinyurl.com/4s4pr4yt for the 2026 MOOvement Invitational. It's happening tomorrow, June 13, at Prairie Creek Golf Course in Dewitt, and we're excited to be one of this year's beneficiary partners!

Half of all proceeds from the event will support Brilliant Detroit's work with children and families across our neighborhoods. Whether you're an experienced golfer or just looking for a fun day on the course for a great cause, there's still time to join us.

Our City Sprouts families loved the Michigan Science Center!

With hands-on experiences at destinations across Detroit, City Sprouts gives young children and their families opportunities to explore and learn together.

As City Sprouts wraps up for the season (after the final stop at the Detroit Zoo), we want to thank all the families who joined us on these journeys. Be sure to check back next year for more opportunities to learn and explore with us!

A massive thank you to the volunteers who helped repair a wheelchair ramp at our Central hub!

Over three days last month, a team from Macro Connect and dedicated individual volunteers rolled up their sleeves to repair and improve the ramp, making the space more accessible. Projects like these help keep our hubs welcoming, functional and ready to serve neighbors.

The Morningside hub's Parent Celebration was a blast!

Kiddos and caregivers made artwork on plates and bowls and created candles, bath bombs and shower steamers. Plus, the food was absolutely delicious! It was a wonderful way to celebrate the parents in the Morningside community for all their hard work and dedication.

This AED and CPR Awareness Week, we're proud to highlight our partnership with the American Heart Association.

Thanks to the AHA, several of our hubs now have access to AEDs, and our staff have received training to respond confidently in an emergency. We’re grateful to the AHA for investing in the health and safety of our families, staff and neighborhoods.

We were delighted to welcome dozens of new families to a recent Play and Learn at the Brilliant Pontiac site!

In partnership with Nurse-Family Partnership, first-time parents and their little ones gathered for an afternoon of play, conversation and delicious food while learning more about the resources and programs available at the hub.

We’re grateful to the Nurse-Family Partnership team, part of Starfish Family Services, for their collaboration and commitment to supporting families across Oakland County.

What a day at the Spring in Bloom Sneaker Ball!

Last month, families from our Morningside and Osborn neighborhoods came together for an afternoon filled with food, bubbles, book giveaways, dancing and plenty of fun. It was wonderful to see so many children and caregivers showing up.

A huge thank you to the Junior League of Detroit's 2026 Provisional Cohort, JLD members and our Brilliant Detroit staff for making this event possible. And thank you to all the families who brought the energy and made the day so special!
