Here we go again, Detroit. Gilbert’s RenCen Redevelopment is scheduled for a community benefits agreement. That means Detroiters will have an opportunity to have a say in what happens to this historic building which has served as a symbol of Detroit for decades and is a legacy of the Coleman Young era.

From the Westside to the Eastside to Southwest, Detroiters deserve a city-wide Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) that supports our community needs and wants.

It’s going down on August 18th at 6pm at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building on the 13th floor in the Erma Henderson Auditorium. Registration link in our bio!

The developer will be there, the city will be there, our money will be there, so make sure you’re there!

Data Centers are coming to Detroit DTE Energy is working with Councilman Scott Benson right now to design policy so they can build data centers in Detroit.

If you’re from Detroit, you know utility bills are a problem! And if data centers come there, it’s likely they will be an even bigger problem.

Stay informed and find out what’s going on with the data center policy plan being led by DTE and Council member Scott Benson.

Council Member Benson painting DTE as saviors during the special vote to hand over Detroit’s neighborhood solar project to the utility monopoly. As of this afternoon, DTE still has 73,343 customers with Interrupted Power! Losing power disproportionately harms Black Detroiters through severe financial burdens, critical food and medication spoilage, and acute health risks. This is particularly threatening for our elders. More and larger Data Centers in Detroit are likely to put further strain on the grid and our people.

What up doe Detroit? Let’s talk about data centers. Detroit People’s Platform asked Detroiters directly what they think.
And here’s what we’ve learned so far:
70% of those surveyed oppose data centers being built in Detroit; 80% oppose tax breaks for them; 77% say jobs don’t change their opposition. The message is clear: Detroiters don’t want data centers. We also found 65% support a two-year moratorium, a pause to actually study the impacts and give the community a real voice. Mayor Mary Sheffield
