AUGUST 29, 2026. It was MJ's birthday 🎂 and we did this one for the kids...and boyyyyy am I glad we did. This was SO MUCH fun, love, community, and joy! Thank you to all the partners who came together to make it happen; West Grand Boulevard Collaborative (WGBC), NASP Detroit, Urban Organic, Detroit First and Foremost (Halima Afi Cassells), and ROADWORK (Bryce Detroit). Special thx to *Detroit's Own" Tyuawn Brown MJ ( he was pure love) and DJ Zoe and Money Matters For Youth. This is just the beginning...more to come...

"The Black Codes investigates traffic management iconography as cultural-economic mobility infrastructure. Reframing familiar traffic signs as technologies of governance rather than mere instruments of navigation, the series examines how visual systems organize movement, codify sociocultural policy, and structure the circulation of people, resources, and opportunity." The exhibition, which ran through August 2026, was the 2nd solo exhibition of Bryce Detroit's career and introduced a new iteration of the work he has been developing since 2022. The exhibition included apparel, community conversation, and an immersive performance art presentation featuring live, original vocals and music. What a feast this has been for the heart and soul.

As summer comes to a close, we are reflecting on the many great artists, creators, and thinkers we've had the opportunity to collaborate with and serve. We kicked off the season with B. Ward's "Baba Juke" - a visual and performance art exhibition that highlighted the special relationship between fathers and daughters in music. While conceptualized through grief, this ongoing project created space for celebration, connection, beauty, and growth. The exhibition, and all its moving parts, was supported in patt by Wayne Metro. Irwin House is, as always, proud to help push Brittini's work and vision forward.
