JOIN OUR TEAM for a good time, not a long time! 😎 We’re looking for a Field Coordinator to help lead our Get Out the Vote and Election Protection efforts this year! The position is a contract role from June - November. The ideal candidate is seasoned and ready to hit the ground rolling ♿️ ➡ 🗳️ This election cycle in Michigan defines the fate of the next generation. Yeah, it’s another history-defining vote. That’s where we’re at right now and as an organization that believes in the power of the people, we’re revving it up. We’re not letting our state get worse for disabled people, immigrants, and trans youth – not without a fight! So we’re knocking doors, calling households, and defending our polls 😤 For both the primaries and the general election in November. Apply or share widely! Thanks ♡

Will you be one of first 30 Core Sustainers? 🌱

April 30th is here, and with it, the close of our first-ever Core Sustainer Drive! We set out to find 30 people willing to commit $30 a month to sustain disability justice work here in Detroit. Thanks to 15 incredible people who said yes, we are halfway there! This is worth celebrating.

The official Core Sustainer Drive may be closing today, but you can still join our Core Sustainer program and budget $1 a day to align your dollars with your values.

Thank you for joining us at our Spring Member Meeting! 🌸

We came together to reflect, learn, and organize for what’s ahead. From breaking down the City Budget to sharing updates on our new membership structure, it was a space full of connection and momentum.

We heard from Joel about the upcoming August 2026 countywide vote that could expand transit access across Wayne County—because accessible mobility is justice. 🚌

We also celebrated DDP member Alan Hejl for auditing 100+ polling sites!

Last, Dessa shared on where our disability justice and immigration organizing is heading.

Good conversations, shared food, and collective vision. This is how we build power 🔥

THIS is what solidarity looks like ✊🏾 📢❤️‍🔥

“At the Detroit City Council budget meeting on March 30, it quickly became clear that the struggles were one and the same, as the city’s general fund was yet again prioritizing the Detroit Police Department and billionaire-backed downtown development over better public transit, infrastructure, jobs, and protections for working-class people and immigrants.

Detroit Disability Power and the Detroit Advocates for the Blind addressed how budget cuts from the general fund harm working-class people with disabilities.

As public comment went on, representatives from each organization began weaving each other’s struggles into their demands.

‘The blind are immigrants. The blind get evicted from their houses. The blind take public transit. The blind need the right to counsel!’ declared a member of the Detroit Advocates for the Blind.”
