We are thrilled to welcome Abby and Tori with Auntie Abby’s Pet Care as Saturday pantry volunteers! We asked Abby why it was import for her team to give back to the community:

“As a lifelong Des Moines resident, I care deeply about both the people and pets in our wonderful community. I also know that pets provide so much more than companionship. They bring joy, comfort, unconditional love, and a sense of purpose to our lives. No one should have to face the heartbreaking decision of giving up a beloved pet because they are struggling to afford food or basic necessities. And pets are less stressed and better off remaining with their owner’s whenever possible.”

“At Auntie Abby’s Pet Care, caring for animals and the people who love them is truly the heart of our business. Our commitment to care, concern, and connection extends well beyond the services we provide to our clients. Volunteering with The Pet Project gives our team a meaningful opportunity to support our neighbors, keep pets in loving homes, and give back to the community that has supported us so generously. We are grateful to be part of this important mission!”

Thank you, Abby and Tori, for your dedication to local pets and their parents! 🧡

With a name like Piggy, you know there’s some extra personality packed into this pup! 🐷🥰 We’re happy to shine a spotlight on miss Piggy and all the wonderful pets who remind us why our mission matters so much.

At The Pet Project, we believe pets are family. Every bag of food donated and every volunteer hour helps keep beloved pets in the homes where they belong. 🧡 Help us keep bowls full, tails wagging, and families together! 🐶🐱🐦

Not every pup can eat just any food! Some of the pets in our programs have dietary sensitivities or special nutritional needs, and we’re running low on a few important items.

We’re especially looking for donations of:
🐾 Grain-free dry dog food
🐾 Non-chicken-flavored dry dog food
🐾 Any flavor wet dog food

These specialty foods can be harder to come by, but they make a BIG difference for the families and pets who depend on our pantry.

🛒 Can you add a bag or can to your next shopping trip, or shop our wishlist? Every donation helps us meet the unique needs of the pets we serve!

Thank you for helping us keep bowls full, tails wagging, and families together. 🧡

Event Committee Volunteers Needed!

Have a knack for room layouts, arranging auction items or event logistics? We want YOU! 🫵 Our events are 100% volunteer run, and critical to helping raise funds and awareness for our programs.

The event committee supports our four annual events (car show, art auction, food drive, holiday photos), helping plan every detail from securing the facility to where signage should be displayed. Time commitment is 2-5 hours per month + events, with increased meeting times closer to event dates. Meetings dates are flexible, held at our pantry in DSM, weekdays after typical work hours.
