Holy Trinity PATCH

Holy Trinity PATCH Holy Trinity Catholic Church’s Parish Assisted Temporary Care and Housing (PATCH) project provides housing for a homeless family for up to 6 months.

PATCH stands for Parish Assisted Temporary Care and Housing. The Holy Trinity Catholic Church's PATCH provides housing for a homeless family for up to six months. During that time the family puts as much money as they can into a savings account. The plan is for them to have enough for a security deposit and at least a month’s rent for their own place when they leave. PATCH also represents a transi

tion between a previous way of living and a better future. Being involved with the PATCH, whether financially or in person or both, is truly a way to honor Jesus’ command to “feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and shelter the homeless.”

There are no special skills required for helping with PATCH. We are working with New Directions Homeless Shelter who helps us find needy families. They provide all the case management. We do need help in the following areas:

Advocates to the family — two people are usually assigned to each family. The advocate meets with the family twice per month (typically for about one hour per visit) to check in and see how the family is doing. We’re here to help and be their friends. Clean up — our tenants are housed for 6 months. At the end of their lease, HT PATCH committee members typically go into the apartment and clean and restock supplies to get the home ready for the next family. Moving — occasionally we’ll help the tenant move their belongings to their next apartment or home. At these points (typically once every 6 months), we could use help with the lifting and moving. It would be great to have a couple people with pick up trucks or large SUVs available. Financial — the expenses of the PATCH are about $1,000 per month. The PATCH is financed entirely by donations. You can use the blue envelopes in the tithing box. Please check the line that says PATCH. You can also donate directly through ACH automatic withdrawals — just like your tithing. Your contributions are tax deductible. Other groups and individuals sometimes help the PATCH as well. We appreciate and need this extra support. All contributions are used to help the families. There is no overhead whatsoever.

A house becomes a home through care, hard work, and community. 💙

Thanks to an incredible team of volunteers and staff, one of our Home Connection homes is now clean, refreshed, and ready to welcome a family.

Together, the team removed 2,000 pounds of yard debris, power-washed the exterior, cleaned windows, refreshed the kitchen and bathroom, deep-cleaned carpets, painted, removed trees, installed a new floor, and completed many other improvements.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped create a safe and welcoming space where a family can begin its next chapter.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Parish Assisted Temporary Care and Housing (PATCH) ministry is helping a family transitioning from the shelter into a home. We are picking up furniture donation on Friday, July 31 at 12:45 pm. We need 2-3 adults or teens to help unload furniture.

We also need help cleaning the home before the family moves in. Are you available to help clean next Tues 7/28, Weds 7/29 or Thursday 7/30 night around 6 pm for a couple of hours? The more people we have the quicker the job will go.

If you can help, please contact Molly Pigneri at [email protected] or click send message button below and she'll provide details.

The PATCH program is going to take a slightly different approach to helping families transitioning from homelessness. Families Forward, formerly Hawthorn Hill, has asked us to help support families that are currently in their Home Connection program. Families typically transition from the shelter into this program and with staff shortages, Families Forward would like our volunteer group to help.

We're diving in by helping a young family with 3 young boys move into Home Connection housing on July 31. Here's how we can help:

CLEANING NEXT WEEK
Need anywhere from 3-10 people the week of 7/27. The house is not terribly dirty so it would likely be 2-3 hours at the most depending how many people are there.

If you're interested in helping clean, please let me know days/times that work and we'll coordinate times that work best for a group to work with Home Connection coordinator.

MOVING FURNITURE - POSSIBLY FRI 8/31
We have put in an application to get household goods from The FreeStore. To help expedite delivery, we will rent a truck. We haven't scheduled the time, but it could be Friday 7/31 or Saturday 8/1. We will need help unloading the truck at the apartment. Please let me know if you or your strong kids are available to help and I'll keep you posted on timing.

These could be good opportunities for teens looking for service hours!

Please email htpatch@gmail if you have any questions or want to be kept informed of additional opportunities to help families.
