📂✨ BEFORE & AFTER: Behind every file is a story, and behind every transformation is a dedicated volunteer!❤️

At JAMLAC, we have years of physical legal files representing thousands of lives, stories, and journeys toward justice.
Thanks to our incredible volunteers, under the guidance of Tana Finley-Padilla, our Pro Bono Coordinator, we are making tremendous progress in digitizing years of legal records!

📁➡️💻 We have now reached files from 2016! That’s a decade of records being carefully organized and digitized as we work toward a more efficient future.

This project is about so much more than organizing files. It’s about giving our attorneys and legal teams more time to focus on what matters most: providing FYLL LEGAL REPRESENTATION to individuals and families facing poverty and oppression.

Every hour our volunteers dedicate to this effort helps strengthen our operations, support our attorneys, and expand our capacity to serve our community.

💙 Not all volunteers work directly with clients, but every volunteer plays a role in making justice possible.

🫶🏼💕 Connecting mental health, immigration, and access to justice!
Today, Carmen Murillo Stevens, JAMLAC’s DOJ Fully Accredited Representative, and Aracely Enriquez, Legal Assistant, proudly represented JAMLAC at Sazonando la Salud Mental, a Spanish-language conference for bilingual mental health therapists.

🎤 We are especially proud of Carmen, who served as a panelist on the Immigration Panel alongside attorneys María Belén Albuja and María Monclova! Together, they helped bring important conversations about immigration, legal challenges, and the connection between mental health and access to justice to the forefront.

This conference was also a wonderful opportunity to introduce JAMLAC’s legal services to mental health professionals, many of whom were learning about our organization for the first time. Thank you Perla Duran for the opportunity 🙏🏼

💜 Because access to justice begins with awareness, and strong community partnerships help us reach those who need us most.

At JAMLAC, years of service represent more than time - Today, 13 members of our team have been at JAMLAC for more than five years. That kind of longevity speaks not only to who they are, but also to what this mission means to them.

At our recent JAMLAC Staff Retreat, we had the opportunity to recognize seven team members reaching important milestones of service, while also celebrating five newer members of our JAMLAC family completing their first year with us.

Their impact goes far beyond their job titles.

They are attorneys who walk alongside clients through life-changing moments. Advocates who make sure survivors and vulnerable community members are heard. Paralegals and legal staff who give extra hours, make the extra call, and go the extra mile. They are community leaders who create initiatives, raise funds, build bridges, and continue serving people beyond the walls of JAMLAC.

And at the heart of this story are our co-founders, Sulma Mendoza and Steve Thompson, whose 20 years of leadership helped pave the way for the organization and team we are today.
