Purgatoire Watershed Partnership (PWP) and CPW deployed data loggers in Trinidad Lake State Park a few weeks ago to increase water quality monitoring in the area. River Corps members Eli Howlett and Hailey Jo Havlik helped install conductivity loggers at 3 River Watch monitoring locations. It was super rainy, but the team had fun while doing this important work! 🌧️

Last week, our team learned about decontamination from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Aquatic Nuisance Species Program to prevent the spread of aquatic invaders! We got to try out the decontamination station at CPW. We cleaned all of the waders and gear used during the River Corps training earlier this year by scrubbing debris from the gear and then leaving them submerged for 10 minutes in 140°F water.

As water monitors and stewards, it is our responsibility to make sure that we are practicing proper decontamination techniques anytime we sample. Here at the River Watch office, we use the CPW decontamination station, but at home, cleaning, draining, and drying before reentering a body of water can help prevent the spread of aquatic invaders and keep our waters healthy. Learn more about proper techniques (https://cpw.state.co.us/activities/clean-your-gear), and make sure to clean your gear after you’ve been in the water!

Idk about you all, but rivers is definitely our passion (and Bradley's).

Thank you to Autumn, Calvin, and Makenzie, students at Del Norte High School, for their presentation on their River Watch sampling site! They interpreted water quality data trends at their site over 30 years (that’s a lot of data!) and shared the potential causes and impacts within their community. We love to see our volunteers using the data that they’ve collected to learn more about the water quality in their communities.

Buena Vista High School samples on the Arkansas River. One of their stations is the most sampled stations in River Watch. Between their 2 stations, they have been sampled 784 times! Station 28, Johnson Village has been sampled 486 times (as of this posting)!!!
The students completed their site visit and practicums with excellent results. Way to go!
