Ep 18 | Words Have Power: The Ancient & Modern Secret to Mental Health

This week, Jean and Dr. Ray are tackling a profound truth: the words you choose don't just describe your life—they create it. Jean leads a deep dive into the psychological and biological power of language, showing how our daily vocabulary can either fuel anxiety or foster peace.

To anchor this concept, Dr. Ray shares a piece of his Persian and Zoroastrian heritage: the 3,500-year-old maxim of Humata, Hukhta, Hvarshta (Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds). We explore why "Good Words" is the essential bridge in this ancient code, how your brain chemistry responds to your internal script, and how to audit your language to build a healthier mind and stronger relationships.

In this episode, we discuss:
- The Linguistic Bridge: Why Hukhta (Good Words) is the link between your mind and your actions.
- The Biological Frequency: How your nervous system reacts to the words you speak on repeat.
- The "Yet" Shift: Turning absolute dead-ends into open doors with a simple vocabulary tweak.
- Delta Talk: How shifting the language in our homes can break generational cycles of conflict.

🛡️ Supporting Our Local Heroes at the Sheriff's Office 🛡️

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, KBH Center is proud to partner with the Delta County Sheriff's Office to enhance officer wellness. Last week (May 19–20), we coordinated with Quinn Archibeque for Delta County Sheriff and a long-time partner of ours from Chicago, Chief Kent Williams of Breachpoint Consulting, who conducted a specialized 16-hour behavioral health training for the department.

This initiative, supported by the POMH Grant Program through DOLA, also provides follow-up sessions for deputies and their families. We are honored to provide these vital resources to those who protect and serve Delta County every day.

🌱 Connection is Key this May

This Mental Health Awareness Month, the KBH Center wants to remind our Delta County neighbors that you don’t have to walk your path alone. Mental wellness isn't just about the individual; it’s about the Caring, Community, and Connection we build together.

In a world that often tells us to "just keep going," we invite you to pause, breathe, and prioritize your well-being. Whether it's reaching out to a friend, spending time in our beautiful Colorado outdoors, or seeking professional support, every step toward mental health is a step toward a stronger community.

How can you participate this month?

-Reach Out: Check in on a neighbor or friend. A simple conversation can make a world of difference.

-Self-Care: Identify one small thing that brings you peace and make time for it today.

-Share the Light: Use the hashtag to share what helps you stay resilient.

Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. We are here to listen, to support, and to connect.

📍 KBH Center: Caring. Community. Connection.

Ep 16 | Brain Glitches: How to Stop Believing Everything You Think

Happy Mental Health Awareness Month! This week, Dr. Ray and Jean are pulling back the curtain on the "bad wiring" in our brains. We all have moments where our thoughts spiral, but did you know there are actually 12 common "Cognitive Distortions" that almost everyone falls into?

From "Catastrophizing" the future to "Mind Reading" your spouse, these thinking traps create unnecessary stress, anger, and sadness. Join us as we identify these "Brain Glitches" and provide you with the tools to straighten out your thinking and reclaim your peace of mind.

In this episode, we discuss:

- The Dirty Dozen: A walkthrough of the most common distorted thinking patterns.
- Feelings vs. Facts: Why "feeling" like a failure doesn't actually make you one.
- The "Should" Trap: How to stop "shoulding" all over yourself and your partner.
- The Courtroom Technique: How to put your negative thoughts on trial and demand evidence.

Ep 15 | Kids, Chaos, and Comparison: Normalizing Jealousy

Today, we’re coming to you live from the goat enclosure! As our newest goat kids jump, climb, and compete for attention, we’re using their antics to talk about a tough human emotion: Jealousy. Most of us were taught that jealousy is "bad," "crazy," or "controlling." But what if it’s actually a natural, healthy signal that you value your connection?

In this episode, Dr. Ray and Jean discuss how to stop shaming the feeling and start understanding the need behind it. We’re breaking down the difference between the "feeling" and the "behavior," and how to ask for reassurance without starting a fight.

In this episode, we discuss:

Goat Logic: Why "pushing for attention" is a survival instinct.

The Shame Trap: Why hiding your jealousy makes it turn into resentment.

Validation vs. Control: How to soothe your partner's (or your own) "inner goat."

Normalizing the Needle: Moving from "I shouldn't feel this" to "What is this feeling telling me?"

Ep 14 | The Victim Trap: Which "Flavor" of Blame is Keeping You Stuck?

We’ve all been there—feeling like the world is against us, our partner doesn't understand us, or the "system" is rigged. While those hardships may be real, staying in a Victim Mentality is the fastest way to stay paralyzed.

This week, Dr. Ray and Jean break down the different "faces" of victimhood. From the "Angry Victim" who uses blame as a weapon, to the "Martyr" who uses self-sacrifice to control others, we’re exposing the patterns that keep us from our power. It’s time to move from the "Drama Triangle" to Radical Responsibility.

In this episode, we discuss:
-The 5 Styles of Victimhood: Which one is your "go-to" when things get hard?
-The Drama Triangle: How we cycle through being a victim, a rescuer, and a persecutor.
-Weaponized Incompetence: Why "I can't" usually means "I won't."
-The Ownership Shift: How to reclaim your life by admitting you are the common denominator in all your problems.
