Join Safer More Affirming Communities (SMAC), Montrose Pride and the _Families Not Politics_ Campaign for a training workshop focused on how to have deep, meaningful conversations with friends, family, and neighbors about Propositions 134 and 135 on the November ballot.
Rather than relying on political debate or talking points, we will focus on how to listen with genuine curiosity and respect to people's real questions or concerns about safety and fairness. You will learn how to share experiences, build mutual empathy, and foster a deeper understanding of what transgender young people actually face every day.
We want to bring together folks from across the region—including Delta, Montrose, Ouray County, Gunnison, and Telluride—who are ready to build these vital communication skills and open hearts through productive, authentic conversations.

As a community we come together and share tears for good and a lot of tears for the events that break our hearts. Our Cowboy King has set his sights on a bigger stage. Please come together to honor a great performer and a gentleman. He was our Cowboy Drag King but most of all he was a Brother, uncle, and son! Take a moment to tell the ones you love what they mean to you. Tipping my hat to you Mr. Landon Van D**e. Thank you for all the memories! Your boots will forever make an imprint in our hearts.

Today we celebrate the birth of Marsha P. Johnson and honor her legacy! 💖

Marsha P. Johnson was a Black transgender woman and activist and was a central figure in the Stonewall Uprising of 1969, which ignited the LGBTQ rights movement. Born in 1945 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Johnson moved to New York City’s Greenwich Village at age 17, where she found community among other LGBTQ individuals. Known for her vibrant personality, distinctive flower crowns, and colorful sense of style, Johnson became a beloved figure within the LGBTQ community and an enduring symbol of resistance against injustice.

Along with Sylvia Rivera, a Latina transgender activist, Johnson co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) in 1970, an organization dedicated to providing housing and support for homeless LGBTQ youth. STAR became one of the first LGBTQ organizations in the U.S. to focus specifically on transgender issues. It pioneered a legacy of advocacy for transgender and gender-nonconforming people who were often overlooked by mainstream gay rights organizations.
