BETHUNE-COOKMAN UNIVERSITY SEMI-QUINCENTENNIAL WREATH PRESENTATION

Joseph Cofield, the President and Founder of The Constitution For The People, Inc. presented a Semi-Quincentennial Celebration Wreath to Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) on May 26th at 2:00 p.m. in front of the Mary McCleod Bethune statute on International Speedway Boulevard.

The wreath was donated by Elissa Waters-Thomas, a B-CU graduate and President of the Pilot Club of the Halifax Area, in honor of the Waters family, whose legacy reflects three generations of graduates from Bethune-Cookman University.

It is also dedicated to the partnership between the Pilot Club of the Halifax Area and Pilot International through the establishment of the Compass Club of Halifax at Bethune-Cookman University — recognized as the first HBCU campus to house a Compass Club.

The Constitution For The People, Inc. provides youth across the United States with personal copies of the United States Constitution to use in schools across the nation and to share at home to promote informed and engaged citizenry.

The ceremony highlighted a shared commitment to service, education, and youth leadership while recognizing the importance of preserving legacy, strengthening leadership, and fostering meaningful community involvement.

Five members from the Pilot Club of the Halifax Area were in attendance; Elissa Thomas - President, Hope Asterilla – Compass Club Coordinator, Essina Robinson, Muriel Fuqua, and Davita Bonner.

The semi-quincentennial celebratory wreaths are being presented to the 105 HBCU colleges and universities across the United States from June 2026 through August 2026 in honor of the monumental 250th Anniversary of the United States of America with the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776. It serves as a reflection on the nation's founding principles and provides an opportunity to re-engage citizens with the ideals of democracy and civil service.

Pilot International is a volunteer service organization dedicated to improving communities through education, leadership development, youth service, and support for individuals with brain-related disorders and disabilities.

Compass Clubs are youth and collegiate leadership organizations sponsored by Pilot Clubs that empower students through volunteerism, service projects, leadership opportunities, and active community engagement.

One of the main focuses of the PILOT CLUB OF THE HALIFAX AREA is to recognize caregivers who are supporting others in many ways.

The PILOT CLUB OF THE HALIFAX AREA recognized the library staff at the DAYTONA BEACH REGIONAL LIBRARY on Wednesday, May 20th, with a PICK-ME-UP.

A PICK-ME-UP is a special way – a small gift – to recognize caregivers and ensure they know how much they are valued and appreciated for all the support and service they provide in our community.

The library staff are busy all summer ensuring children are served daily breakfast and lunch in addition to all their normal duties with the library.

The PILOT CLUB OF THE HALIFAX AREA strives to influence positive change in communities by coming together in friendship and service focusing on encouraging brain safety and health and supporting those who care for others. We focus on: preparing youth and young adults for service, encouraging brain safety and health, supporting those who care for others.
