It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Eric Wentzel, longtime Head Coach for the South YMCA KEY Swim Team.
For 24 years, Eric dedicated himself to the YMCA, the KEY Swim Team, and the countless young people and families he served through competitive swimming. He was so much more than a coach. He was a mentor, a role model, a steady presence, and someone who helped shape not only strong swimmers, but confident, disciplined, and caring people.
Eric’s impact reached far beyond the pool deck. Through early morning practices, late nights, long weekends at meets, words of encouragement, and the relationships he built, Eric created a legacy that will continue to live on through his family, his athletes, fellow coaches, and the entire swim community.
His dedication to the YMCA and to the sport of swimming is truly beyond words. The lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the memories he helped create will be felt for generations.
On behalf of the South YMCA and the YMCA of Greater Dayton, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Eric’s wife, Jenny, his three daughters, his family, friends, fellow coaches, swimmers, and all who were fortunate to know and love him.
We invite our YMCA family and swim community to share photos, memories, and messages of love in the comments as we honor and celebrate Eric’s incredible life and legacy.
