American Legion Post 267 - Davison, MI

American Legion Post 267 - Davison, MI The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. Davison Rd. A.B. Mrs. G.

When the Davison American Legion Post #267 was chartered on March 10, 1920, it was named in memory of Charles N. Skellenger, the first Davison area soldier to die in World War I. The American Legion has held its meetings in three different locations in the 94 years it has been a part of the community. They first met in the temporary school building, located at the site of the current Davison Munic

ipal Offices and the library, then they moved to the Davison Hall on Main Street, and now they have their own building at 10309 E. Under the leadership of Commander Floyd Ogden, a cottage was erected on the north shore of Higgins Lake in 1937. The cottage is still used by the membership. Commander William Maschino led the American Legion when it built its current post in 1952. In the past it was used by the Davison Area Senior Citizens for meetings and by Davison Township as a voting precinct. Today the Legion still uses it for its meetings and events – as well as offering the facilities as a rental hall to the community. After numerous urgent requests for the local Legion Post, and several futile attempts in the past, a group of ladies met at the Legion Hall on
Jan. 5, 1922 to organize an Auxiliary of the Charles N. Skellenger Post #267 of the American Legion. The following were present: Mrs. Clayton Parr, Mrs. Charles Uptegraff, Mrs. Phillip Hill, Mrs. John Markley, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Carl Bohms and Mrs. John Maxon. Charles Pratt and Mrs. Harold Bradshaw of the Wm. Haan Red Arrow Unit of Flint were present to aid in organizing the new unit. With Maxon acting as chairman, officers were elected for the year and applications were filled out. The Charter was official on April 25th, 1922. There are many projects the Auxiliary undertakes, one of which is the annual Poppy Sale. They are assisted in this by the Legion Post, and proceeds are used to help with veterans’ projects. They also have sent students to Girls State and have undertaken many more activities in the community.

Wowza. We are so excited!
We are grateful and humble. We have been saving for years to be able to pave our parking lot. Now is the time. This is our opportunity. We have 3 projects we are spearheading and can’t wait to get them all up and moving.
