Richard Joseph Stoecklin, known affectionately as Rick to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, in Davison, Michigan. Born on June 4, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, Rick's journey through life was marked by his unwavering spirit of adventure, his love for the outdoors, and the deep bonds he forged with those he held dear.
Rick proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a testament to his courage and dedication. His sense of duty extended into his civilian life, where he was a respected past commander at the VFW Post 4087 in Davison, Michigan. He also served with honor as a member of the Honor Guard at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, ensuring that his fellow veterans received the respect and recognition they deserved.
On March 16, 1990, Rick married the love of his life, Rita Melotti, in Lapeer, Michigan. Together, they created a blended family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rita; his daughter, Shauna (Eric) Blais; stepchildren, Patrick Stevens, Jeff Stevens, Ann (Jessie) Kurzyniec, and Erik Stevens; and his cherished grandchildren, Travis, Ashton, and Ethan Stoecklin. Rick also leaves behind step-grandchildren, Matt, Brandon, Jennifer, Erik, Aidan, Addison, Alexis, and Kylie, as well as four great-grandchildren. Rick was one of seven siblings, and he was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Shirley (Layhe) Stoecklin.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Rick found solace and joy in the great outdoors. His favorite pursuit was hunting squirrels, a pastime that reflected his patient and observant nature. Rick's love for nature took him on many adventures to Oscoda, Michigan, and on countless camping trips with his family throughout the northern reaches of the state. These excursions were not only a source of relaxation but also a time for creating lasting memories with his loved ones.
Rick's loving heart, adventurous soul, and his unique sense of humor left an indelible mark on everyone he met. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told around campfires, in the quiet moments spent in nature, and in the laughter shared among family and friends. Rest in peace, Rick, and know that your journey through life has left a lasting impression on the hearts of many.
