Marine Corps League Illowa - John C.Hernstrom Detachment #102

This year we are hosting the MCL Iowa State Convention with the Hamilton-Walters Detachment. This is a costly event for the Detachments and we could use some help to offset these costs. To help with these cost we hold an auction on Friday night of items donated from local businesses. If you have a gift basket or any items you would like to donate for this auction, please contact us.

Also, we are looking for local businesses that would like to help with us providing a simple meal for our Friday night event. I.E Deli Sandwiches, Pizzas or something that can delivered and won't need warmers. We would also be appreciative of deserts like Cookies, Cupcakes, Brownies or other sweets. These don't have to be donated, but maybe a discounted cost.

We are also looking for Transportation for about 50 people from the Isle Hotel to the Rock Island Arsenal where we will hold our Memorial Service, visit the Arsenal Museum and enjoy a lunch at the park. So if you know of anybody that has a bus for rent at a decent price or a company to work with we would appreciate that.

The 2026 Department of Iowa Convention is June 19th and 20th, 2026 at the Isle of Capri in Bettendorf, IA. Here is the link for the hotel:

Marines help Marines and right now we are asking that you help one of our Detachment members in raising some money to help his daughter Amanda with medical expenses while her son is fighting for his life at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

In continuation of our service to the community we served dinner last night at the Christian Care Shelter With funds raised throughout the year, we were able to donate $1000 to Christian Care Shelter in Rock Island. This donation provides 3 meals a day for three days for many homeless in the Quad City area. Thank you for your continued support of the Marine Corps league in helping us in our mission to continue Corps traditions and service to our community. If you would like to be a member of the Marine Corps League, please reach out to us. You don’t have to be a Marine to join as an Associate member if you just want to be a part of a great organization that does good things.

Throughout the year we raise money and volunteer many hours, to do good things in our community. The biggest thing we do, is that we help support the local Toys for Tots program. This year we donated $2,900 in toys. We also had a little bit of fun shopping for the toys. We have to thank Ollie’s in Moline for giving us very generous discounts so we could achieve maximum amount of toys for the kids. Also a big shout out to Davenport Guns for helping us raise the money to do this toy buy. If you would like to help with donations for Tous for Tots or would like to become a member of the League, please contact us.
