*Darnestown Menorah Lighting planning*

Hello neighbors! It's already time to think about December planning. Traditionally we've had a family lead a prayer at the Menorah lighting every year, but this year we'd love to recruit one (or more?) of our Jewish neighbors to take a more active role in helping to plan the Menorah lighting, beyond just the prayer. Helping to decide on what time, date, foods to serve, best advertising practices, the structure of the event, making decisions about rescheduling if we have bad weather (i.e. last year), etc.

With our social coordinator, Caitlin, being a non-Jewish person, she feels that a Jewish neighbor would be better equipped to make decisions that are more in line with tradition, best practice, culture, and religion. She would of course continue to provide as much or as little logistics support as needed. If you would be interested in helping to fulfill this role please email Caitlin at [email protected].

Our safety guy, Barry, forgot to buy his Hoedown tickets by yesterday's deadline! Fortunately for him, we've *extended ticket sales until the end of day TUESDAY 9/29*. He ran off in a panic before I could tell him that he only needs to go to our website (https://darnestowncivic.org/ ) to make his purchase...

The event is coming up on 10/2 from 6-10PM, don't forget to get your tickets by the end of our extended deadline!!!

🚨🚨TIME IS RUNNING OUT to get your tickets for the 55th Darnestown Hoedown!!🚨🚨

Hoedown ticket sales end THIS FRIDAY, September 25th. Tickets are $55 for DCA members, and $65 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased at www.darnestowncivic.org

We want to introduce you all to our new square dance caller for the Hoedown! Our Square Dance Caller this year is John Marshall. He began his full time Calling and teaching career in Baltimore County in 1979. He performs for special non dancer party groups, Square dance clubs, Square Dancer Associations and large Festivals, locally, Nationally and Internationally. He teaches dancers and other Callers. For 36 years he has been elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the International Association of Square Dance Callers - CALLERLAB. During which time he was elected repeatedly to serve on their Executive committee including several years each as Vice Chair and Chairman.

When we first spoke to John, it was clear that this is his passion and he's super enthusiastic about it. We're so excited to welcome him to the Hoedown so that we can bring square dancing back to our favorite Darnestown event!

Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸

One of our favorite Darnestown traditions is seeing the American flags proudly lining Route 28 each Fourth of July. It's a beautiful reminder of the pride we share in our country—and in our community.
