Congratulations to our very own Lashawn Farmer, RDA Director of Design and Expansion, on receiving the 2026 WE Lead Award from the Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce!

The WE Lead Program stands for Women Empowered and exists to uplift women who are building community, and Lashawn embodies that mission every single day.

Through her work with RDA, she's strengthening the River District and surrounding gateway communities through placemaking, façade improvement, and equitable economic development that centers resident voices. She's also the creator of the True North Speaker Series, which is preparing to enter its fourth season, which amplifies the stories of Black women. Lashawn has also led planning RDA’s annual Juneteenth Celebration, coming up next Friday, June 19, which celebrates Black female artists, the featured speaker panel from the ladies of season 3 of the True North Speaker Series and will also feature 30+ Black women-owned vendors.

Join us next Monday, June 15, at noon as we officially welcome T-Valley Studio LLC to the North Main Street Business District! We will have a ribbon cutting ceremony and tour the studio with owner DeAnthony Poole! T-Valley Studio is located at 616 North Main Street. We hope to see you there!

There’s plenty to look forward to in the River District this week!

Our featured event is the City of Danville's annual Ladybug Release Event this Friday, June 12, from 4:30 to 9 p.m. The celebration begins with the hildren's Release at the Ruby B. Archie Library and continues with the Adult Release at 301 Tavern. It's a unique and fun tradition you won't want to miss!

You'll also find live music, local shopping, delicious dining and other events happening throughout the week.

CALL FOR BLACK FEMALE ARTISTS | Juneteenth Celebration

The River District Association invites Black female artists to submit their work for display at our upcoming Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 19, at Thee Arc Family Life Center (427 E. Thomas Street) from 4-8 p.m.

This is an opportunity for our local black female artists to share their voice, vision and creativity as we honor this historic occasion together.

It’s another exciting week in the River District!

The spotlight this weekend is on the semi-annual Bridge Street Food Truck Rodeo, happening Saturday, June 6, from Noon–6 p.m. on Bridge Street. Come hungry and enjoy a great afternoon of food, fun, and community in the heart of downtown.

Take advantage of the beautiful weather this week with Summer Bingo on the patio at Golden Leaf Bistro on Wednesday and Rooftop Happy Hour at The Bee Hotel on Thursday. You can also enjoy live music at several local restaurants throughout the weekend.

We have another exciting week ahead in the River District!
