The Danville Fire Department is reminding residents to take precautions as extreme heat is expected Thursday and Friday.

According to the department, the National Weather Service is forecasting afternoon heat index values around 100 degrees.

The fire department stressed that it is never safe to leave a child, disabled person or pet inside a parked vehicle, even for a short period of time.

The department noted that 31 children died in hot vehicles nationwide in 2025.
