Our little Israel, whom we have loved and known since he was just 4 months old, is now 11 years old. It is hard to believe how quickly the years have passed.
Today, he is on his way to Salt Lake City, Utah from Guatemala, once again for orthopedic treatment. Since he was 3 years old, he has made the journey to SLC journey every year he has been blessed by the kindness and generosity of the Nebeker family, who have opened their home and hearts to him. Their support over the years has meant more than words can express.
This year, because of scheduling conflicts with his hospital appointments, staying with the Nebekers will not be possible. We are incredibly grateful that Lauren Simpson and her family have so graciously stepped in to help. Their willingness to welcome Israel and support him during this trip is a beautiful reminder of how much compassion and goodness there is in the world.
Because of the love, generosity, and sacrifices of people like the Nebekers and the Simpson family, Israel is able to continue receiving the treatment he needs—treatment that helps him keep walking, running, playing, and simply being a kid.
Watching Israel grow has been one of life's greatest blessings. He is no longer the tiny baby we first met. He is growing into a thoughtful, kind, and remarkable young boy. Every conversation with him reveals a little more of the person he is becoming, and it fills our hearts with pride and hope for his future.
To everyone who has played a part in Israel's journey, thank you. Your kindness has made a lasting difference in his life, and in ours. We will never forget it.

Little Felipito Update – May 23, 2026

After five surgeries, little Felipe is finally going back home for a few months to rest, recover, and heal before returning for additional surgeries.

Throughout this journey, Jolene Towers and her family have truly been angels to Felipe and his mother. They have been by their side every single day, making sure every need was met. Their love, kindness, and generosity have been incredible to witness.

We also want to thank all the other families in the Dayton, Ohio area who helped Felipito along the way taking him to appointments, spending time with him, supporting his mother, and making him feel loved and cared for while being so far from home. Your kindness has meant more than words can express.

In a world where selfishness often seems to prevail, experiences like this remind us that language, culture, and race do not matter when it comes to compassion. We can all become family and help one another.

Felipe has found an extended family so far from his home in the Andes of Peru, and that love will never be forgotten.

Thank you so much to Jolene, her family, and everyone who opened their hearts to Felipe and his mother. It has truly been an honor to know you and to witness such genuine love and humanity. Until we meet again.

This is an update on little Felipito’s progress since his return from Peru for a third surgery. Felipito has undergone two surgeries since returning in January and is expected to need a few more in the future.

He has certainly faced some difficult moments, but his joyful spirit has not dimmed. Felipito continues to inspire everyone around him with his resilience and happiness.

His mother is a truly kind and loving woman who has earned the admiration and affection of all who have had the chance to know her.

We are especially grateful to the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Dayton, Ohio area. They have warmly welcomed Felipito and his mother, blessing them with their service, compassion, and love. We are especially thankful to Jolene Reaveley Towers and her family for their unconditional care and support for them during this time.

With hearts overflowing with gratitude, we are so happy to share that Felipito’s surgery today was successful. After nine long, exhausting hours, he is now recovering well. Words cannot express how thankful we are for Jolene who has remained by Felipito’s side and his mom’s side through every moment. Jolene and her family have given them far more than a place to stay they have given them love, comfort, and a true home away from home. Because of this incredible support, this miracle for Felipito was made possible. Our hearts are full, humbled, and deeply grateful for all the love surrounding them. ❤️🙏

Update on Felipito

In the midst of a world that so often seems to be turning inward, it is truly heartwarming to see that there are still people who genuinely care for others.
Felipito is being lovingly cared for by a wonderful family who have taken it upon themselves to help ease some of the suffering he and his loved ones have endured.

The Towers family has gone far beyond the walls of their own home, bringing their friends and community into this beautiful labor of love. Thanks to their generosity and dedication, little Felipito will be able to spend Christmas surrounded by his entire family in Peru — a gift that will bring immeasurable joy and comfort to them all.

It is in moments like these that I feel our mission is truly succeeding when we are able to help those in need, and when those with so much love to give demonstrate that love is, in fact, a verb. Each of us has something unique to offer to those who are struggling.

There is nothing more moving than witnessing people care for one another, sometimes even without having met, simply because they recognize that we are all brothers and sisters.

Felipito continues to grow stronger each day, and his next major surgery is scheduled for January 2026. Let us keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers as they prepare for this important step in his journey.

Our Journey to Peru: A Week of Connection and Compassion
Today, our group of humanitarian volunteers returned home to Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Georgia after an unforgettable week in Peru.
What we experienced went far beyond what words can capture. The connection — la conexión — between cultures, hearts, and human compassion was something truly indescribable. We came to serve, but we leave having been deeply touched ourselves.
Peru welcomed us with warmth, resilience, and beauty. We return home changed — more aware, more grateful, and more united through the shared humanity we witnessed and became a part of.

Felipito, you are incredible.
I deeply admire your strength in the midst of so many challenges. And yet, you still celebrate every blessing even a simple meal with joy.
Your presence in our lives is a gift. Through you, we are learning so many valuable lessons. Personally, I’ve learned that even though you can’t speak with words, your smile and your expressions communicate pure joy.
At such a young age, you already know how to be grateful to our Father. You understand that it’s the little things that bring the greatest joy.
You are so beautiful, Felipito.
Thank you for all the powerful lessons you teach us from your heart.
