Family Frameworks

Family Frameworks Formerly known as Northwest Georgia Marriage Initiative, INC. Presently dba Family Frameworks.
(1)

What we do: Empower teens to be the best they can be in our 6 lesson program ‘Decisions Today-Sucess Tomorrow’. Family Frameworks educates 2500+ teens yearly in Murray, Gordon, and Whitfield counties with our 7-week Healthy Choices/Healthy Relationships course that builds intrinsic value, lessening their potential to be involved in risky behaviors that lead to negative life altering circumstances.

Our program establishes character building, goal setting, and future life planning strategies. Our theme, "Choose to Lead," strongly encourages honorable leadership behaviors, mimicking individuals' attributes that motivate and influence their peers in the present and future, helping them keep jobs and identify healthy behaviors in relationships, which allows them to find their pathways to success and create a thriving community.

Snapchat Score Card

Here are some Snapchat talking points you may want to consider.

Why Snapchat?
1) Very popular and most kids use it.
2) The filters on Snapchat are very fun to use.
3) Automatically hides information from parents.
4) Has a secret pass-coded picture vault.
5) Automatically logs devices out when logged into on another device. This feature logs parents out who are trying to monitor incoming messages.

Why not Snapchat?
1) Parents can't check kids' phones for content incoming or outgoing.
2) Lots of inappropriate behaviors posted on Snapchat desensitize kids to reality. (N**e photos, drugs, parties, crimes, po*******hy, fights, pranks, challenges, etc.)
3) Parents can't monitor or filter information being seen.
4) Parents can't check who is talking to their children.
5) Parents have to blindly trust their young teens in a very hazardous environment.
6) Snapchat can broadcast your child's location within 10 feet.
7) Most predators highly recommend Snapchat to kids they are speaking with.
8 - Snapchat users now have an A.I. friend that is being uses as a therapist, dating coach, counselor, homework helper, and many other not-so-great things.

I strongly recommend 18 (previously 16) be a better age for Snapchat to be allowed on phones. I see many terrible things at school come across Snapchat and parents have no way to see what that is. It is common for 75% of girls in high school to have sent out naked pictures and most of those have been sent on Snapchat. I also see kids get completely addicted (8-15 hours per day) to time that is completely wasted and will not have any return on time used.

Why risk this as a parent?
1) I want to be the "cool parent".
2) I'm tired of arguing with my kid about it.
3) I have no idea what Snapchat is.
4) All the other kids have it.
5) I trust my kid and nothing you say will change that.
6) My kid is different than any other kid.

Did you know Snapchat has a built-in secret picture vault with its own password? Yup, most parents don’t know about this either. (See my previous post about how to find the secret vault which is called My Eyes Only).

Most online predators love it when parents give their children Snapchat as there is no way to monitor it. I personally consider any device that has Snapchat an unmonitored device no matter how good parents think they are at technology.

Please put some serious thought into letting your children have an application on their cell phones that hides information from parents.

🚨SEXTORTION IS REAL & OUR YOUTH ARE TARGETED AROUND THE CLOCK🚨

Read below from Officer Gomez (great page to follow)!
If you aren’t following Family Frameworks be sure to like & follow us also for more on what we do in Whitfield & Murray Counties as well as info we share to help parents!!

➡️Could your kid be blackmailed? Yes.

➡️Predators who use s*xtortion against kids are counting on your child being too afraid to tell their parents that someone has n**e photos of them. Many kids continue to meet the demands of predators because they are scared to talk to their parents. These kids are essentially held hostage to ongoing demands for money, s*x, more pictures, more videos, and other things.

🚨This is a serious conversation parents should have with their kids before it ever happens.

‼️I know many parents want to believe they have instilled enough values and caution that their child would never send inappropriate or illegal photos. The reality is that even great kids from great families make mistakes sometimes. With how desensitized many kids have become through social media, there is a high likelihood your child may someday send some type of photo that could later be used against them.

🆗Let your kids know ahead of time that there may be consequences, but there will also be understanding, support, and learning opportunities.

❓What should your kids do if they know one of their friends has sent out a photo or is being extorted?

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒🧑‍🧑‍🧒🧑‍🧒‍🧒🧑‍🧒In our house, we regularly do tabletop scenarios and walk through possible actions, reactions, and short-term and long-term consequences. Talking about these situations as a family helps kids understand that you, as a parent, are on their team, especially when they make mistakes.

👮‍♂️As a School Resource Officer, I try to help kids understand that the bigger the mistake, the more they need trusted adults like parents, teachers, counselors, or law enforcement to help them. I make sure they know I am on their team no matter what may have happened. The legal consequences of some online mistakes are minor compared to the real-world consequences of letting bad people control your life.

🫴🏻I would also like parents to understand that police officers, especially SROs, are here to help kids. Most of us would much rather see a parent handle a problem than see a judge 🧑‍⚖️ involved. Sometimes families need extra support, and that’s when the court system may become part of the solution.
