There’s a side of rescue you don’t always see in the cute photos.
Behind every cat you see posted is a foster home that sacrificed a bedroom, a bathroom, a laundry room, or sometimes just their own peace and quiet to make room for one more.
It’s veterinary teams showing up for another long day when an emergency walks through the door. It’s someone taking time off from their actual job to go volunteer. It’s driving across town — or across the state — because a cat needs help and there’s nobody else to go.
It’s answering messages at 2 AM… and sometimes getting yelled at because you were asleep. 😂
It’s driving to a meet-and-greet only to be no-showed.
It’s rearranging your entire day because an animal needs a ride.
It’s cleaning litter boxes, giving medications, doing laundry, bottle feeding, making phone calls, filling out paperwork, coordinating veterinary care, answering adoption questions, fundraising, transporting, networking, problem-solving and somehow still finding the energy to say, “Okay… who else needs help?”
And the truth is, we’re everywhere.
We are not a giant organization with endless resources and employees waiting around for the next emergency.
We are people.
People with jobs. Families. Bills. Bad days. Exhaustion. Full schedules. People who sometimes cry in their cars and then walk inside the vet clinic anyway.
We are simply a team of humans who looked at an animal in need and decided to jump in and do something.
Every day, rescue tests our faith in humanity.
We see abandonment. Neglect. People who make promises they don’t keep. People who stop caring when an animal becomes inconvenient.
And then, somehow, humanity surprises us again.
A stranger donates $20.
A foster says, “I can take one.”
A vet says, “We’ll figure it out.”
Someone drives three hours to pick up a cat.
Someone shares a post.
Someone sends food.
Someone opens their home.
Someone sees an animal everyone else overlooked and says, “That’s my cat.”
Those moments are what keep us going.
And that is exactly why North Texas Giving Day matters.
Because rescue doesn’t run on good intentions alone.
It runs on veterinary care. Medications. Surgeries. Food. Litter. Supplies. Transportation. And the people who give their time, homes, skills and hearts to make all of it possible.
A goal like $60,000 can sound enormous….But when you’re caring for hundreds of cats and facing emergency veterinary bills, routine medical care, spay/neuter, food and supplies, that money doesn’t go nearly as far as people might think. It is what allows us to keep saying YES when the next animal needs us.
North Texas Giving Day isn’t just about donating to a rescue…..
It’s about investing in the people who keep showing up.
The foster who gives up their bathroom.
The volunteer who takes a vacation day to transport a cat.
The veterinary team who stays late for an emergency.
The person answering the 2 AM text.
The person who gets stood up at the meet-and-greet and still shows up for the next one.
