O Heavenly Father,
Our hearts ache as we come before you today, thinking of the precious children and devoted camp workers currently missing in the south Texas floods.

As someone called by you to this most precious ministry of summer camp, this news is devastating.

Joining in prayer with our greater camping community, we lift to you the children, camp staff, and volunteers currently unaccounted for. We pray for their safety. We pray for your comfort to surround their families, for strength, courage, and solace during this time of unknowing. We ask for courage and unwavering hope for the search and rescue teams working tirelessly to find them.

Lord God please protect all those who are still in harm's way and their families and bring them to safety.

Lord God you have promised us that peace which passes all human understanding through your Son our Savior Jesus Christ. Protect and carry us as we lean on that peace in the midst of this tragedy. It is in you that we hope.

In your most precious Name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings
Deacon Katie Ge**er
All Saints Summer Camp Director
Episcopal Diocese of Dallas

There’s so much more to this activity than just scaling a wall to reach the top. I’d like to think of it as a metaphor for our walk of faith. It often times feels like an uphill battle. Let’s look at how we’re never meant to travel this journey alone. We’re protected by a harness that supports us on the climb, catches us when we fall, and sets us down gently all managed by the hands of the watchful belayer. There’s “spotters” that are right beside us watching and prepared to catch us with outstretched arms. Then there’s the community standing by, cheering us on; encouraging each new grasp or step or venture along the journey. The wall represents life in this world with the challenges hurled at us. The harness is our relationship with Christ. He’s got us wrapped in his loving embrace. The belayer is his Word and the Holy Spirit holding us, advocating and protecting us. Then those on the ground are our communities of faith always there to help raise us up and cheer us on.

This is a night I look forward to each week. A night to be together and reflect on what the past week has meant to us and to reflect on how profoundly God touched our hearts.
