The youth program at Resource One Credit Union went the extra mile when creating snack packs for children visiting the Wilkinson Center Food Pantry. Each hand-crafted bag was littered with adorable drawings, plenty of stickers, and the sweetest encouraging messages that are sure to lift spirits as well as fill bellies.

Thank you to Resource One for their continued partnership and their generous donation. We know that the children at our food pantry are going to love the snack packs!

Meet Jordan Ellzey, a recent GED graduate from Wilkinson Center’s Adult Education program!

After moving around during his younger years and spending time in Arizona, Jordan returned to Texas and discovered an opportunity to finish his education. In just four months, he earned his GED! Jordan said his favorite parts of the program were learning alongside his classmates, revisiting familiar subjects in new ways, and working with his teacher, Delisha Evans, whom he praised for making sure her students had what they needed to succeed.

Congratulations, Jordan! We’re proud to celebrate your achievement and grateful to be part of your journey.

Our expectations were completely blown out of the water as close to 200 guests showed up to the luxurious lakeside party that was our fourth annual Pantry in the Park presented by The Rosewood Corporation. The evening passed in a blur as party goers danced to bumping yacht-rock, enjoyed gourmet eats, and posed in their best party-attire for adorable caricatures. Cutthroat bidding wars erupted through the crowds as everyone was keen to get their hands on our exciting live and silent auction items.

All-in-all, it was an unforgettable night where the generosity of 200 guests helped create Pathways to Success for thousands of neighbors in need!

At 38 years old, Jesse Soto proved it’s never too late to change your future.

After facing challenges with substance abuse and not finishing school, Jesse knew earning his GED was an important step toward the life he wanted to build. Through Wilkinson Center’s partnership with Men of Nehemiah, a faith based recovery organization that gives men structure, Jesse received educational support and encouragement while working to overcome barriers from his past and prepare for his future.

With determination, the support of his family, and the guidance of those who believed in him, Jesse earned his GED through Wilkinson Center. Now, he’s looking ahead to college with plans to become a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor so he can help others facing challenges similar to those he has overcome.

Last week, Wilkinson Center was delighted to host a volunteer group from Vanguard Preparatory School for neurodiverse learners. This vibrant group were a joy to work with and were pros at making To-Go Bags for our unhoused neighbors, sorting through produce, and prepping our pantry to be ready for distribution. We are so grateful to our friends at Vanguard Prep School and are excited to work with them again!

128 working students and 16 employers engaged in interviews and info sessions at our Hiring Fair made possible by the community grant program. Many job seekers were offered on the spot interviews and some even walked away with job offers! We are so proud of all the professionals who showed up and impressed employers from warehouses, healthcare, and across the job spectrum.

Thank you to Total Wireless, Empower Work, and all of our employer partners for making this engaging and productive event possible!

Wilkinson Center is a proud partner agency of North Texas Food Bank and together we distributed over 1.5 million pounds of food last year alone. We spoke to the Partner Grant Program Manager at North Texas Food Bank, Jessica Orsino-Jordan, who had a lot to share about why they support Wilkinson Center.

Jessica gushed about our client-choice food pantry, which not only provides food to Dallas County natives, but delivers to seniors and those with mobility issues. Wilkinson Center also helps families build long-term stability through workforce development, ESL and GED classes, case management, and other essential services. That is why we received two North Texas Food Bank grants last year for pantry improvements and expanding our case management services.

When you support Wilkinson Center during North Texas Giving Day, you not only support an organization trusted by over 20,000 Dallas residents, but one that is trusted by leading nonprofits in the area like North Texas Food Bank. Make your donation today and help empower families to find pathways to success!

Melanie Myers dedicated her life to helping others and was a beloved friend of Wilkinson Center. Through Friends of Wilkinson Center, she volunteered at our Food Pantry and Shoe Drive, sponsored GED graduations, hosted fundraisers, and always found a reason to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and volunteers. The Melanie Myers Scholarship carries her legacy forward by supporting exceptional Wilkinson Center students as they pursue their dreams.

This year’s recipient, Dayanara Lopez, earned her Phlebotomy Certification through Wilkinson Center and is now pursuing a Patient Care Technician program at Dallas College with the goal of becoming a registered nurse. Help us honor Melanie’s legacy and invest in students like Dayanara by giving to the Melanie Myers Scholarship Fund. Gifts made through September 17 will also count toward our North Texas Giving Day total.
